April 26th
Larry L. Leffel, 70, of New Knoxville, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at his residence.
He was born on Oct. 25, 1942, the son of Walter and Violet (Truesdale) Leffel.
He married Sharon Henkener on Aug. 26, 1960, and she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his three children, Craig (Esther) Leffel of New Knoxville, Keith (Susan) Leffel of New Knoxville and Amy (Gregg) Weadock of New Knoxville; by his grandchildren, Zachary Leffel, Lucas Leffel, Rachel Leffel, Logan Leffel, Morgan Leffel, Alicia Weadock and Erica Weadock.
April 25th
Clifford "Howdy" Garwick, 79, of Mendon, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013, at the Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1933, in Van Wert, to parents Clifford E. Garwick and Maxine (Clover) Garwick Putman and stepfather Robert E.L. Putman, all of whom preceded him in death.
He married Dorothy E. (Bair) in 1952, and she survives, along with their daughter, Sherry Davis (and Dan Gabriel) of Celina.
Their son, Scott R. Garwick, passed away in Aug. 2012.
April 24th
Suzanne L. (Smalley) Marion, 75, of North Huntington, Pa.; and formerly of Celina, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Briarcliff Pavilion, North Huntington, Pa.
She was born on April 9, 1938, in Celina, to the late George and Jane (Riley) Smalley. Suzanne is survived by her son, John R. Marion of Pittsburgh, Pa.; her brother and sister-in-law; two sisters and brothers-in-law; her friend; a special niece and several other nieces and nephews.
Edna C. Tontrup, 87, of 1423 Nagel St., St. Marys, died suddenly on Monday, April 22, 2013, at her residence.
She was born on Jan. 1, 1926, in St. Marys Township, the daughter of Leo and Mary (Ruedebusch) Schroeder.
She married Louis Tontrup on Aug. 30, 1947, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1974.
She is survived by her three children, Sandra Tontrup of Dayton, Steven Tontrup of St. Marys, Stan Tontrup of St. Marys; by one sister, Naomi Rison of St. Marys; by numerous nieces and nephews.
April 22nd
Marjorie Jones, 87, of 902 Jackson St., St. Marys, died at 10:54 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Briarwood Manor Nursing Home in Coldwater.
She was born on March 23, 1926, in Moulton, the daughter of Grant and Nora (Hines) Tester.
She married Joseph Jones on Sept. 1, 1946; he preceded her in death on Aug. 14, 1999.
Betty Jane Koons, 76, former resident of Port Jefferson, joyfully passed through heaven’s gates at 12:03 a.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty Jane was born on Sept. 13, 1936, in Sidney, the daughter of the late Walter and Luella (Kinninger) Fahnestock of Sidney.
Roy “Bob” Koons married Betty Jane Fanestock on Jan. 23, 1954, and they shared over 59 years together.
Dorothy Louise Luedeke, 96, of New Bremen, died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Otterbein St. Marys.
She was born on Oct. 25, 1916, to Frank and Bertha (Thiesing) Sunderman.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Frederick Luedeke. Also, by her brother James F. Sunderman, her daughter Kathleen (Augustine) Mascaro, and a great-grandson Jonathan David Hjelmgren.
Eugene E. “Gene” Lauth, 68, of Spencerville, died at 8:23 a.m. Saturday April 20, 2013, at Van Wert County Hospital Emergency Room, following a sudden illness.
He was born on Aug. 15, 1944, in Spencerville, the son of Howard and Mary Jean (Freewalt) Lauth, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Ashley (Michael) Johnson, Spencerville; two granddaughters, Chevrolet and Carleigh Johnson; a former wife, Kay (Burden) Lauth, Spencerville; a brother, Everett (Phyllis) Lauth, Mendon.
Orin J. Roettger, 89, St. Marys, passed away peacefully at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born on Sept. 17, 1923, in New Bremen, the son of Clarence and Luetta (Dammeyer) Roettger, who preceded him in death.
On Oct. 3, 1942, he married Lois Boroff, and they were married for 69 years. She survives at the residence.
April 19th
Chet Lore, 54, of 223 Lynn St. in St. Marys, died at 5:43 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on June 20, 1958, in Dayton, to Louis and Mary (Dupont) Lore.
On June 30, 1979, on the shores of Grand Lake St. Marys, he married Sueann Adams, who survives.
