Event Helps ACCA's Mission

ST. MARYS — September is National Senior Center Month, and the Auglaize Council on Aging has found a fun, festive way to celebrate. It will host the third annual Auglaize County Harvestfest from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds east gate entrance. Entry is $1 or a canned good that will be donated to a local food pantry.

New this year will be a car show, which will run all day. Door prizes will be given to the first 30 entrants, and the cost to enter is $5.

Sept. 4: Books, Babies & More will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (newborn-36 mos.) and their caregivers at the St. Marys Community Public Library.

A storytime will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the New Bremen Public Library.

Preschool Storytime will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the New Knoxville Library. Kids ages 3, 4 & 5 (not yet in Kindergarten) are welcome.

Sept. 2: A Book Discussion for Adults will be held at 10:30 a.m. today in the St. Marys Community Public Library Meeting Room. "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein will be discussed.

Kids in grades 3-5 can make a rally towel a 3:30 p.m. today at the New Bremen Public Library. Tie dye and stencil a towel for the Homecoming game. Limit 20. Call 419-629-2158 to register.

NEW KNOXVILLE — The “water” in New Knoxville Superintendent Kim Waterman’s name doesn’t specify a temperature but Friday afternoon it was definitely icy as the administrator had four buckets of freezing water poured on her by various Rangers.

Cards Call Out Classes

NEW BREMEN — New Bremen fourth graders each donated $1 to fight ALS while getting drenched for charity on Wednesday.

Each student learned about ALS and read about Lou Gehrig — who died from the disease. The Cardinals then called out fourth graders nationwide to do the same.

Ella Pape explained what she’d learned about ALS.

“It’s a disease that people are fighting for,” she said, adding why she wanted to participate. “To challenge other people.”

Aug. 28: New Bremen Public Library will host story time for 3 to 5-year-olds at 10:30 a.m. today.

Preschool Storytime will be at 10:30 a.m. today at New Knoxville Public Library. Kids ages 3-5 (not yet in Kindergarten) are welcome.

The New Bremen Library’s Highly Recommended Book Club will be meeting at 1 p.m. today. No need to read a specific book. Just come prepared to discuss what you’ve been reading recently.

Police Chief Pitches Auxiliary

ST. MARYS — School security could get a boost if city councilors sign off on new legislation one law enforcement official says could save money and help the battered General Fund.

During Monday night's city council meeting, St. Marys Police Chief Mark Ernst addressed councilors regarding the re-establishment of a police auxiliary force for the city of St. Marys.

Ernst said the city had an auxiliary department that was established in the mid-1950s, but participation fizzled out in the 1990s.
