ST. MARYS — Roller skating will return to St. Marys on Friday with the re-opening of Woodland Rollerdome.
Dan and Victoria Egbert recently purchased the roller rink on Celina Road, and while the rink will officially celebrate its grand opening in October, free hot dogs will be given to those in attendance at the 6:30 p.m. opening on Friday. Egbert noted the rink has received several updates in the past few weeks.
ST. MARYS — Results of an alum test project in April on three locations within Grand Lake St. Marys yielded results that could bode well for the lake.
NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville Local School has acquired new technology to aide students that have difficulty taking notes.
The district purchased two Echo Smartpens, which record a lecture while the student is taking notes. Principal Linda Tebbe said she saw a demonstration for the smartpen at a workshop.
CELINA — Thousands of spectators lined Lake Shore Drive in Celina over the weekend for a view of the 2011 World Championships and Governor’s Cup Regatta on Grand Lake St. Marys.
CELINA — The 2011 Governor’s Cup Regatta capped off a summer of successful events held at Grand Lake St. Marys, adding to the recovery of tourism at Grand Lake St. Marys.
The annual event, which was canceled last year because of water quality issues at the lake, was a success this year, bringing excited racers and spectators alike to the area. Co-chair Allen Baskett said the success of the event showed the enthusiasm of the committee and the community for the race.
CELINA — High-speed boats will return to Grand Lake St. Marys today as the 2011 Governor's Cup Regatta take over the region.
After being canceled last year because of poor water quality at Grand Lake St. Marys, the regatta is back in full force. The event, which brings thousands of people into Auglaize and Mercer counties each year, will serve as the 2011 Inboard World Championships as well.
ST. MARYS — Disc golf can now be added to the list of recreational activities available at K.C. Geiger Park, as a new course has been installed and a league has formed.
League founder Nate Metz said disc golf, or Frisbee golf, is similar to golf.
“The goal is to throw your disc from a starting point, which would be your tee pad — just like a tee box — and you have your basket, and the goal is to get your Frisbee in the basket in the least amount of shots as possible,” Metz said, noting that scoring is kept exactly like golf.
ST. MARYS — A local parents’ organization is running a fundraiser for the second time, with residents also given the option to donate what they purchase to help locals in need.
The St. Marys Band Parents Organization is again running its pizza fundraiser, which it debuted earlier this year.
NEW BREMEN — A local Congressman says a cloud of uncertainty hanging over the nation’s capital is preventing the economy from picking up and pulling out of the recession.
U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, visited members of the Southwestern Auglaize County Area Chamber of Commerce Thursday afternoon to talk about the current climate in Washington. He touched upon a variety of topics including business growth, the debt ceiling debate and how to streamline the federal government.
ST. MARYS — A state department released its official report cards for school districts across Ohio Wednesday, with a local school district seeing a few changes on its 2010-11 card.
The Ohio Department of Education released the official St. Marys City School District’s 2010-11 School Year Report Card Wednesday, with the district meeting 24 out of the 26 indicators and netting an effective rating.
