Celina Man Arrested

CELINA — A Celina man could face charges for allegedly having $10,000 worth of illegal drugs in his home.

On Aug. 31, the Celina Police Department assisted the Mercer County Adult Probation Office and the Grand Lake Drug Task Force at a check of a probationer’s home located at 902 Sycamore St., Celina. Officers were checking the home of Jerrod Muhlenkamp, 30.

During the initial check of the residence it was determined that illegal drugs were allegedly present in the home. A search warrant was then obtained and the entire residence was checked.

Park To Host Annual Festival

MINSTER — A local state park is putting the finishing touches on an annual festival.

Lake Loramie State Park will host its annual Fall Harvest Festival Sept. 14-16. Park Manager Brian Miller said the event typically draws a large crowd.

“There are just so many great offerings,” Miller told The Evening Leader. “It’s crazy down there — we will pack the campground and do overflow at some of our beach areas. We get a lot of campers for it.”

Therapist Gives Tips

MINSTER — A local speech language pathologist reviewed some tips and treatments available for swallowing issues during a program on Wednesday.

Swallowing issues, or dysphagia, include “any difficulty in the passage of solids or liquids from the mouth to the stomach,” P.T. Services Speech Language Pathologist Denise Bergman told a crowd gathered at the F.J. Stallo Memorial Library for her presentation.

CRIDERSVILLE — Area law enforcement and safety services responded to a rollover Wednesday morning on Interstate 75 near Cridersville of a vehicle which contained the pyrotechnic equipment of two nationally known rock bands.

Crews Respond To Fire

ST. MARYS — A quick response from local residents helped reduce damage from a fire Tuesday afternoon at a downtown St. Marys business.

At approximately 4:13 p.m. Tuesday, members of the St. Marys Fire Department arrived at Sketcherz Ink, 229 E. Spring St., on a report of smoke and fire coming from the building. As crews arrived, employees of the tattoo and piercing shop already pulled back some of the building’s fascia to expose the source of the fire.

CIC Talks Development

NEW BREMEN — An area economic development director gave an update on workforce development initiatives, as well as one that will be soon taking place locally.

During her report to the members of the New Bremen Community Improvement Corporation, New Bremen Economic Development Director Angela Hamberg noted her recent trip to Traverse City, Mich., in early August with members of the Auglaize County Economic Development Coalition.

Watershed Tour Scheduled

CELINA —  Residents in the Grand Lake St. Marys Watershed who want a closer look at some of the techniques being used to help clean up the region can do so this week.

The Do-It Yourself Tour, which is sponsored by a handful of watershed stakeholders, will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The tour will feature eight stops around Auglaize and Mercer counties, with each highlighting techniques used to help clean up the watershed.

Local Makes Trip To RNC

ST. MARYS — A Roughrider alum recently traveled to Tampa to take part in an event that helped her learn more about politics.

Shelby Core, a sophomore at Ohio Northern University and a 2011 Memorial High School grad, attended the Republican National Convention last week as a way to get first-hand experience in the political process. A political science major, Core worked with the Ohio delegation at the convention.

Rider Has Water in His Blood

ST. MARYS — For 17-year-old Kevin Dammeyer, water skiing is in his blood.

During his summers, the son of Carl and Denise Dammeyer competes in water skiing competitions.

“This summer, I did regionals and nationals,” he said. “Regionals was in Minnesota, and nationals was in Florida.”

He noted his parents enjoy water skiing, and he picked up the hobby when he was five.

“My dad and my mom water ski, and I just wanted to do it,” he said.

Safety Touted by FEMA

ST. MARYS — As the calendar changes to September, a local county official says residents should keep the threat of severe weather in mind during fall.

September is Preparedness Month — a campaign sponsored by FEMA that looks to make residents cognizant of severe weather and disasters and how to plan accordingly for the events. Auglaize County EMA Director Troy Anderson said fall has become an active weather season for Auglaize County.
