ST. MARYS — Spectators who attend games at the gymnasium in Memorial High School will soon see a new, 80-inch video board showing ads from local and regional advertisers.

Giant Pumpkins Return

NEW BREMEN — The giant pumpkins will return to New Bremen this weekend for an annual fall festival.

Pumpkinfest will run Friday and Saturday at Crown Pavilion, and this year’s festival will feature a slew of pumpkin-themed activities and a new showcase. Throughout the festival, a slew of pumpkin food items will be available.

“They have the pumpkin pancake breakfast, pumpkin brats, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin ale,” Southwestern Auglaize County Chamber of Commerce Director Scott Frey told The Evening Leader.

Village OKs Line Project

NEW BREMEN — The village of New Bremen will be relocating utility wires that run through Lions Club Park underground, as councilors passed a resolution authorizing Village Administrator Wayne York to pursue contracts with the involved parties at their meeting Tuesday night.

Wine Appeals To Supreme Court

Teachers Tour Local Facilities

NEW BREMEN — Teachers in the New Bremen Local School District spent their teacher in-service touring manufacturing plants and learning of local opportunities to help educate students on possible career paths at a business engagement session Monday afternoon.

The event, which was sponsored by the New Bremen Business Advisory Council, allowed educators to learn about opportunities available to students in New Bremen.

City Gets Green Update

ST. MARYS — City Councilors learned about green energy options during Monday night’s meeting.

AMP representative Mike Weadock gave a presentation to St. Marys City Councilors regarding an upcoming solar energy project. Earlier this year, city officials submitted a proposal to be in contention for possibly hosting a solar field that would give the city access to green energy.

Event Helps Raise Funds

ST. MARYS — Runners and walkers joined to participate in a local church’s run/walk event Saturday morning.

As part of Living Hope Assembly of God’s First 5K, a group of runners and walkers traveled 3.1 miles to help raise money for the church, which is located at 1130 Indiana Ave.

Organizer Glen Madden noted Saturday’s event was the first of its kind for the church.

Memorial Stadium Sees First Game

“Leader Look Back” is a collection of stories and headlines from 75, 50 and 25 years ago this week. This week’s edition examines stories from Sept. 18-24, 1937, 1962 and 1987.

75 years ago: The St. Marys Roughriders defeated Liberty 6-0 in the first game at Memorial Stadium. The stadium opened with 1,200 seats.

Auglaize County Sheriff William Nieter threatened to arrest truck drivers for failing to follow specific routes. He said too many trucks were failing to follow the Ohio 32 detour.

Rider Active On, Off Field

ST. MARYS — During her time as a St. Marys student, Memorial High School senior Molly Albert has proven herself as a leader among her peers.

Albert, 17, is an active athlete who has demonstrated her leadership skills both on and off the field.

COSI on Wheels Makes Stop in New Bremen

NEW BREMEN — Students at New Bremen Elementary got a hands-on experience with chemistry on Friday, as students enjoyed a visit from COSI on Wheels.

This year’s program, It’s Simply Chemistry, began with a morning assembly with the entire school.

“We started off the day with an assembly, and we had to find the missing slime ingredients because they were stolen,” COSI on Wheels Outreach Programs Manager Nicole Rife told The Evening Leader.
