January 12th
ST. MARYS — A local resident questioned a school board’s policy during the board’s meeting Wednesday evening.
During the public participation portion of the St. Marys Board of Education meeting Wednesday evening, resident Bret Abbott requested board members look into a policy that regulates third-party staff members, such as probation officers and law enforcement officers, as well as resource officers.
NEW BREMEN — Middle School Principal Howard Overman was named the new superintendent for the New Bremen Local School District Wednesday night, effective Aug. 1.
ST. MARYS — The second criminal case against a St. Marys optometrist was dismissed on Wednesday.
Auglaize County Prosecuting Attorney Ed Pierce filed a motion to dismiss the second criminal case against Douglas J. Wine, who was charged with two counts each of rape, first-degree felonies, gross sexual imposition, third-degree felonies, and sexual battery, third-degree felonies. Wine was scheduled to stand trial on the charges starting Feb. 7 and was scheduled for a final pretrial at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

CELINA — Investigators continue their investigation into the murders of a father and daughter in November.
In a news release, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said detectives and agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation are sorting through evidence pertaining to the homicide of Robert and Colleen Grube that occurred in their rural Fort Recovery home on Nov. 29 or 30.
ST. MARYS — Members of a city development group approved a measure to pledge their financial support to the future of Grand Lake St. Marys.
NEW BREMEN — An area mayor had to break a tie vote — something that doesn’t happen often — during a village’s first council meeting of the year Tuesday evening.
January 10th
MINSTER — Members of the Minster Fire and Rescue squad responded to Minster Machine this morning for an accident which resulted in the death of an employee.
Minster Fire Chief Dale Dues told The Evening Leader crews received a phone call shortly after 5 a.m. today reporting a male at Minster Machine was trapped under a plate of steel. By the time emergency responders arrived, Dues said employees at the foundry freed the male. The male was brought to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys via a Minster squad.
ST. MARYS — City officials say they plan to take a closer look at the city’s water fund.
St. Marys Mayor Pat McGowan noted the health of the city’s water fund needs to be examined in the coming weeks. During Monday night’s council meeting, councilors approved, under suspension of rules, an emergency ordinance to make appropriations for 2012. In that measure was a revision that removed a $200,000 appropriation from the water distribution improvement fund.
ST. MARYS — A New York woman faces three felony charges after allegedly attempting to defraud a local Chase Bank.

The Moulton Township Board of Zoning Appeals will hold an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. today at the Township Hall
The Grand Health Challenge will host its kick-off meeting at 7 p.m. today at Memorial High School.
The St. Marys City Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. today.
The Minster Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. today.
