November 29th
ST. MARYS — Local residents in search of a piece of pizza will soon have another option to satisfy their craving this week.
Dan Egbert, owner of the Woodland Rollerdome, will open Rinkside Pizza on Friday. The pizza place is located inside the skating rink and will replace the snack bar. Egbert and his wife, Victoria, have been working on the upgrade for the past year.
“We felt like the food needed to be upgraded,” Egbert said.
ST. MARYS — A three-year labor of love for a St. Marys native recently turned into his first published book.
“Harney Peak Revealed,” which hit bookshelves and online retailers, traces the historical importance of one of South Dakota’s hidden treasures. The book, penned by Bradley Saum — a 1985 graduate of Memorial High School — took several different shapes before the author settled on its format.

ST. MARYS — City officials are in the preliminary stages regarding the feasibility of an electronic media sign for the interchange of U.S. 33 and Ohio 66.
November 27th
ST. MARYS — Three local law enforcement officials received formal recognition for their respective roles in pulling a St. Marys woman from the St. Marys River on Nov. 1.
ST. MARYS — For Christine Chambers and her husband, Marc Hassan, Christmas is an opportunity to give back to the community.
This holiday season, the couple — owners of the Tastee Treat in St. Marys — decided to sponsor the donation of Christmas trees to needy families in the area. “Santa’s Trees” is not a contest — the trees are meant to make as many family Christmases as special as possible.
November 26th
CELINA — This year’s Reindog Parade saw few reindogs, but many excited children waiting in the bitter cold with their families for a glimpse of the big man — Santa Clause.
The parade commenced with a train carrying its chilly passengers to the crowd in front of the Celina courthouse on Main Street on Saturday. This crowd consisted almost entirely of parents pushing strollers or carrying their red-nosed toddlers.
November 23rd
ST. MARYS — A local Red Cross official recently returned to St. Marys after a two-week stint helping with the recovery efforts on the East Coast in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.
Red Cross of Auglaize County Chapter Director Ken Cline left for New York shortly after the devastating storm left its mark on the East Coast. Cline spent much of his time in the Rockaways, which was among the hardest hit regions of New York.
ST. MARYS — For senior Nick Durkee, his plans after high school are 75 percent certain.
He is not stressed about that 25 percent of uncertainty, but chooses to approach the future with a “whatever happens, happens” attitude.
“For now, I’m just planning on going to college for engineering,” Durkee said. “Wright State is my main option. I hope to run cross country there, too.”
ST. MARYS — In hopes of bringing advanced stroke care to the area, Joint Township District Memorial Hospital has joined Ohio State University’s stroke telemedicine network.
The network connects rural hospitals with specialists in a cost-effective, timely manner, creating better patient outcomes. Joint Township District Memorial Hospital Director of Emergency and Ambulatory Care Services Lana Hinders said the hospital was approached to join the network, which is funded through the Ohio Department of Health, last year.
ST. MARYS — An annual toy drive to benefit children in the St. Marys School District is in full swing.
Barrels looking for donations as part of the Toys for Tots drive are out in full force at approximately 30 local businesses. Organizer Steve Mackenbach has been in charge of the drive for more than two decades.
“The thing about it I like the most is that everyone just seems up beat about it,” Mackenbach said. “Everyone seems to enjoy it and it’s just a positive thing.”
