September 28th
ST. MARYS — A new gas station and convenience store could be months away from opening in the city of St. Marys.
A public hearing has been scheduled for 4 p.m. Oct. 17 at the city building, 102 E. Spring St., in front of the zoning board of appeals to consider a request for seven variances for the proposed construction of an automotive service station to be located at 105 N. Spruce St. The lot is currently vacant.
NEW BREMEN — Parents in the New Bremen Local School District now may have a look into their child’s classroom, as the district has started a school blog to document academic activities.
Middle School Principal Jason Schrader said he saw the blog, NewBremenSchools.blogspot.com, as an opportunity.
ST. MARYS — For Braeden Tuttle, performing is a key aspect to his life.
The 17-year-old Memorial High School senior performs in the multiple groups he is involved in and out of school — Drama Club, Symphonic Choir, Glitter n Gold, Footloose and other plays, as well as Relay for Life and Friends of Rachel.
“I love to sing and act,” Tuttle said.
He also has the opportunity of portraying Rocky the Roughrider throughout the year — he chose his favorite memory of school as being Rocky the first time.
CELINA — With an estimate of more than 5,000 unsolved homicides in the state of Ohio, Attorney General Mike DeWine is working to help local law enforcement solve more cases by creating a centralized database for unsolved homicides.

ST. MARYS — Spectators who attend games at the gymnasium in Memorial High School will soon see a new, 80-inch video board showing ads from local and regional advertisers.
NEW BREMEN — The giant pumpkins will return to New Bremen this weekend for an annual fall festival.
Pumpkinfest will run Friday and Saturday at Crown Pavilion, and this year’s festival will feature a slew of pumpkin-themed activities and a new showcase. Throughout the festival, a slew of pumpkin food items will be available.
“They have the pumpkin pancake breakfast, pumpkin brats, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin ale,” Southwestern Auglaize County Chamber of Commerce Director Scott Frey told The Evening Leader.

NEW BREMEN — The village of New Bremen will be relocating utility wires that run through Lions Club Park underground, as councilors passed a resolution authorizing Village Administrator Wayne York to pursue contracts with the involved parties at their meeting Tuesday night.
ST. MARYS — Douglas Wine has filed a motion seeking to get his appeal heard by Ohio’s highest court.
September 25th
NEW BREMEN — Teachers in the New Bremen Local School District spent their teacher in-service touring manufacturing plants and learning of local opportunities to help educate students on possible career paths at a business engagement session Monday afternoon.
The event, which was sponsored by the New Bremen Business Advisory Council, allowed educators to learn about opportunities available to students in New Bremen.
ST. MARYS — City Councilors learned about green energy options during Monday night’s meeting.
AMP representative Mike Weadock gave a presentation to St. Marys City Councilors regarding an upcoming solar energy project. Earlier this year, city officials submitted a proposal to be in contention for possibly hosting a solar field that would give the city access to green energy.
