CELINA — The handler for the Mercer County K-9 unit has been suspended for more than a month in the wake of the animal’s death last week.
On Monday, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced Deputy Chad Fortkamp, Zak’s handler, has been suspended without pay for 45 working days as a result of the events leading to the dog’s death last week. Grey noted the suspension equated to a $6,500 penalty.
CELINA — Dog lovers and their furry friends gathered at the shelterhouse at the Celina Rotary Dog Park Monday evening to remember one of their own — a fallen canine sheriff’s officer.
A group of area residents organized a celebration remembrance ceremony for Zak, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office K-9 who died last week after being left in the canine officer’s car.
ST. MARYS — The Evening Leader and the Wapakoneta Daily News will again have a $10,000 cash giveaway as a promotion for participating sponsors. The event, The $10,000 Dash for Cash, is being held after the success of previous giveaways.
This is the sixth time the newspapers have held a big-prize giveaway. Previously cars and gas cards have been given away.
Patrons can visit any of the 72 participating sponsors in The Evening Leader and Wapakoneta Daily News coverage area to enter.
