Rider Looks To The Future

ST. MARYS — For Memorial High School senior Megan Schmehl, life — for the moment — is all about school and sports.

Schmehl participates in cheerleading, soccer, and is on the bowling team at St. Marys. She played stopper and sweeper for the soccer team. Schmehl just joined the bowling team this year, after being recruited by the coach since she was a freshman.

“They’ve been trying to get me to do it for like, four years now,” Schmehl said. “I could never do it until the dual sporting came into play.”

Goodfellows Return

ST. MARYS — An army of volunteers will soon take to the St. Marys Armory all in the name of giving this holiday season.

Goodfellows, which distributes toys and food to needy families within the St. Marys School District, is accepting applications for this season. St. Marys Community Foundation Administrator Mike Makley said the program has been active in the community for more than 50 years.

Winter Events Team Up

ST. MARYS — The holiday season kicks off in St. Marys on Sunday as two winter events come together.

Winterfest and the Festival of Lights will take place in the area near the shelterhouse on High Street, between the Miami and Erie Canal and the St. Marys River. Winterfest will start at 3 p.m. with a parade through the streets of downtown St. Marys and end with Santa Claus making an appearance. Local musicians also are set to perform in the shelterhouse. Acts will play every 15 minutes from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with Christmas music during breaks.
