Teen Organizes Food Drive

ST. MARYS — A St. Marys teen today is launching a campaign aimed at helping others in need.

“The Reach for Two: One for U.S. and One for You” food drive is the brainchild of St. Marys resident Robert Austin Riggs, a 16-year-old Memorial High School student. Riggs, the son of Robert and Barbara Riggs, said he decided to start the drive after lower-than-normal results of a recent post office food drive.

St. Marys Superintendent Resigns

ST. MARYS — A local district official announced her resignation during a special meeting of the board of education held Friday.

In a meeting that included districtwide cuts for every employee of the St. Marys City School District, Superintendent Mary Riepenhoff also said she will be leaving for another job this fall. Members of the St. Marys Board of Education approved the resignation of Riepenhoff as superintendent, effective Aug. 31.

Couple Falls In Love With Alpacas

CELINA — Mary and Norm Zahn began researching what they wanted to do for after their retirement 10 years ago. After talking, visiting farms and attending shows, they decided to invest in alpacas.

“We had been to several shows and farms that we had visited to see the different animals and we were just so impressed with their demeanor,” Mary Zahn said. “They’re very curious animals and they make a humming sound and they’re just real calming to be around. They’re not excitable hardly at all.”

June 25: The Reach for Two food drive starts today and runs through July 4. Barrels are located at Kroger and Pantry Pride in St. Marys. The Spencerville Summerfest ends today. Moulton Homecoming will be held today.  The Covered Bridge Farmers Market in Memorial Park will be held from 8 a.m. to noon today in St. Marys.

Celina PD Arrests 2 For Huffing

CELINA — The Celina Police Department has made arrests in two separate incidents that involve suspects abusing a household product by huffing.  In the first incident officers were called to a home at 7:23 a.m. May 31 after neighbors saw a teenager that appeared to be huffing paint, sitting on the porch.  Officers arrived to find Kyle A.

Authors Shed Light On St. Marys Native

ST. MARYS — Two authors stopped at a local library to speak on a writer with ties to the area who was a household name in his prime, as part of a presentation Thursday evening.

Paul J. Bauer and Mark Dawidziak presented on their biography on St. Marys native Jim Tully, titled “Jim Tully: American Writer, Irish Rover, Hollywood Brawler,” at the St. Marys Community Public Library.

Green Plant Comes To Celina

CELINA — The city of Celina and SolarVision, LLC, broke ground on the Celina Renewable Energy Center  Thursday, marking the beginning of construction on the sixth and largest solar power installation for SolarVision in Ohio.

SolarVision President Greg Kuss said the center is a unique project.

“This is the only installation like this in the world that I’m aware of,” Kuss said. “This is a historic day. This doesn’t happen every day”
