Mark A. "Marty" Vehorn, 51, of 139B N. Main St., Minster, died at 9:58 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Minster.
He was born on July 7, 1961, in Coldwater, to Ralph and Nancy (Daly) Verhorn. They preceded him in death.
He is survived by five sisters, along with 18 nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church in Maria Stein, the Rev. Gene Schnipke, officiant.
Burial will be at St. John Cemetery.
Paul B. Brown, 80, of rural Wapakoneta, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the Auglaize Acres.
He was born on Feb. 13, 1933, in Auglaize County, the son of Roy J. and Alodia (Oen) Brown, who preceded him in death.
On June 14, 1961, he married Ruth E. Poeppelman, and she survives.

ST. MARYS — At St. Marys Intermediate School on Wednesday, students saw the creation of over 100 different ecosystems.
As Kristy Guy’s fourth-grade science classes have been studying ecosystems, they brought the subject to life with their “Engaging Ecosystems” project.
“It’s living and nonliving things in an environment and how they interact,” Guy said. “We’re building a forest habitat and freshwater habitat.”
25 Years Ago This Week – 1988
For the previous five seasons, the St. Marys Roughriders’ baseball tournament ended before it even had a chance to get started. From 1983-1987, the Roughriders had the door slammed shut on them in the opening game of sectionals, but their fate all changed this week in 1988 when they posted a dramatic 8-5 win over the Bath Wildcats on their home field in Lima.
Don Lee Dicke, 77, quietly ascended from the pain and suffering of his physical body into the open arms of our Lord in Heaven, Jesus Christ, at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2013. In his last days, he was comforted, and reassured by all who loved him that he had fought and suffered long enough.
He was born on Sept. 30, 1935.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Ann Berning, whom he married on Sept. 13, 1958, and children Pamela (Dicke) Miller, Christine Dicke, Michael Dicke and friend Trish Carter, Todd and Bridget (Schwartz) Dicke.

LIMA — The St. Marys track team had four individual wins at a tri-meet at Shawnee on Tuesday.
The Roughrider boys finished second with 38.5 points. Celina won with 101 points. Shawnee was third with 35.5 points.
The Celina girls won with 85 points, Shawnee was second (52 points) and St. Marys finished third (38 points). St. Marys’ Amanda Dues won the girls 1600 meter run with a 5:37.44 time.
The Riders’ Kristen Dammeyer won the 3200 meter run with a 12:18.09 time.
DEFIANCE — Weston Rivers earned his fifth win of the season on the mound for Defiance and the Bulldogs scored six runs in the first two innings in a 7-1 win over the St. Marys baseball team on Tuesday.
Codie Deaton pitched and took the loss for the Roughriders.
St. Marys fell to 2-11 while Defiance kept its years long winning streak in the WBL going and went to 16-0 on the season.

MINSTER — Minster senior Adam Niemeyer has only pitched 22 innings so far this season. Minster head coach Mike Wiss knows he needs his top pitcher fresh for games like the one on Tuesday night.
Minster’s ace and future Buckeye came through in the Wildcats’ biggest game to date.
Niemeyer struck out eight in a two-hit shutout to lead the Minster baseball team to a 2-0 win over Coldwater in a Midwest Athletic Conference showdown at Hanover Street Park.
ST. MARYS — St. Marys Tri Star Med Prep class held their 17th annual pinning ceremony for the graduating class of 2013, where the graduates were given their caduceus pins and took the health occupations pledge by candlelight at the Dennings Center.
The students, adviser Janet Nelson said, will wear this pins through the upcoming two weeks of observation.
Pauline R. Schmiesing, 89, of Minster, died at 6:11 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Sept. 21, 1923, in Fort Loramie, to the late Clemens and Emma (Seger) Bender.
She married Melvin H. Schmiesing on April 27, 1946, in Fort Loramie. He preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 2010.
