Regina B. Aselage, 97

July 15, 2011

Regina B. Aselage, 97, formerly of McCartyville, died on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Dorothy Love Nursing Home.

She was born on May 3, 1914, in St. Patrick, to Henry and Anna (Schmitmeyer) Hoying, and they preceded her in death.

On Aug. 17, 1939, she married Clemens J. Aselage in St. Patrick, and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2001.

David L. Brincefield, 69

David L. Brincefield, 69, of 537 Touvelle St., Celina, died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

He was born on May 18, 1942, in Auglaize County, to Theodore and Leota (Keiber) Brincefield, and they preceded him in death.

Changes Made to Project

WAPAKONETA — To date, six change orders have been approved for the Auglaize County Courthouse renovation project.

Auglaize County Administrator Joe Lenhart said it’s about what they expected going into the approximately $8 million project, facing unknown factors particularly in the basement and attic areas.

“We were advised to allow for $250,000 in contingencies,” Lenhart said. “We’re at about $100,000 in change orders and we’re getting most of the way through the unknowns.”

Santa to Visit GLSM

ST. MARYS — Campers at Grand Lake St. Marys today will get a dose of the holidays.

The annual Christmas in July weekend, which started Friday, wraps up today with a slew of activities for campers. Today’s event kicks off with Santa arriving at 10 a.m. to pass out treats to children.

“The whole day is themed around Christmas,” Grand Lake St. Marys Park Manager Brian Miller told The Evening Leader.

Minster a win away from state ACME tourney

ST. HENRY — Austin Knapke’s pitching and some timely hits have Minster in prime position for a state ACME tournament berth.

Ryan Hoying hit a two-run home run and Knapke frustrated Cavalier batters for six innings  in the Wildcats’  3-1 win over Coldwater in the first game of the ACME district championship series on Thursday night.

Knapke took a shutout into the seventh inning. He stranded a Coldwater runner at third base in the first, fourth and sixth innings. He gave up one run on five hits, striking out three and walking three.

Dog Park Could Be Coming To City

ST. MARYS — The paws are churning on a possible dog park in the city of St. Marys.

Members of the St. Marys Parks Advisory Board discussed the possibility of adding a dog park at Kiwanis Park, located off Beech Street. Robin Willoughby, the 4th Ward Councilor and a Kiwanian, noted the back portion of the park could make an ideal location for a dog park — a facility she has been vocal about for the past several years.

Police Seize Heroin, Cash

CELINA — A traffic stop and complaints from residents led to one of the largest heroin seizures in Mercer County Thursday night.

According to a news release from the Celina Police Department, officers gathered information to obtain a search warrant and executed it on a home located at 306 S. Brandon Ave. at 6:16 p.m. Thursday. Officers found three people inside the home. Once the three were secured, officers started to search the home and discovered a large amount of heroin as well as approximately $10,000 in cash during the two-and-a-half hour search.

Betty Evelyn Jenkins, 85

Betty Evelyn Jenkins, 85, of Celina, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at the Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford.

She was born on Aug. 30, 1925, in Mercer County, the daughter of Virgil S. and Lollie May (West) Monroe, and they preceded her in death.

On Jan. 22, 1946, she married Bevan Eugene Jenkins, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 2008.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marjorie L. Jenkins; six brothers; two sisters.

Joseph Scott “Joe” Clark, 40

Joseph Scott “Joe” Clark, 40, of Spencerville, died on Thursday, July 14, 2011, in Lima.

He was born on March 3, 1971, in Lima, the son of Gary R. and Sydney R. (Bowers) Clark. His father preceded him in death, and his mother and stepfather, James M. Lentz, survive him in Newark.

He is also survived by a close companion and her son; two brothers; a sister.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, with the Rev. Tim Hefner officiating.
