CELINA — Four Mercer County residents were arrested as a result of drug investigations by members of the Grand Lake Drug Task Force.
In a news release issued to The Evening Leader, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said the four were indicted and arrested for alleged drug trafficking. The investigation was conducted by the Grand Lake Drug Task Force — a combined effort of law enforcement agencies in Mercer and Auglaize counties. Grey noted the Celina Police Department also assisted in the apprehensions.
Facing charges are:
Harold L. Suchland, 90, of 9 Haarbye St., New Bremen, died at 1:35 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at the St. Marys Living Center.
He was born on June 11, 1921, in St. Marys, the son of Rueben and Maude (Dowden) Suchland, and they preceded him in death.
On Oct. 18, 1942, he married Helen E. Menchhofer, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 2008.
Garrett Rhodes, 21, of 09560 Auglaize Co. 33-A, Wapakoneta, died on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at the scene of a single vehicle crash in rural Auglaize County.
He was born on Aug. 8, 1990, in St. Marys, to Donny L. Rhodes and Samantha Clouser. His father survives him in Wapakoneta, and his mother and stepfather, Jeff, survive him in St. Marys.
ST. MARYS — Live trapping of squirrels in the city of St. Marys will soon begin with one caveat — the furry critters must be released and cannot be killed.
St. Marys Safety-Service Director Tom Hitchcock said residents may trap squirrels but they cannot kill the animals. Any squirrel that is caught must be released alive.
NEW BREMEN — A festive group of creatures has hit the streets of New Bremen as part of what has now become an annual tradition.
The Pumpkin People are officially out today in New Bremen, adding fall spirit to the storefronts around the village.

NEW BREMEN – A light seemed to go on for the New Bremen Cardinals volleyball team as the second set of the third match began Saturday.
In a tri-match against the Covington Buccaneers and Anna Rockets the Cardinals defeated Covington 24-26, 25-15 and 25-16 and they defeated Anna 15-25, 25-20 and 25-17. Anna defeated Covington in the second match 25-18, 23-25 and 25-20.
WAPAKONETA — An Auglaize County man died Saturday night from injuries suffered in a crash along County Road 33A.
According to a news release from Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to a crash at 11:57 p.m. Saturday along County Road 33A, east of Bay Road.
Harold L. Suchland, 90, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at the St. Marys Living Center.
Arrangements are incomplete and being handled by the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home of New Bremen.
