NEW BREMEN — Lima Central Catholic defeated New Bremen 66-40 on Friday night behind 18 points from Billy Taflinger.
Taflinger finished with 18 points for LCC, while Ty O’Connor scored 11. Bruce Hodges and Tre'on Johnson added 8 apiece.
ST. MARYS — Local students were able to fit in some holiday shopping during a two-day event this week.
Students at St. Marys Primary School shopped the Santa's Workshop Gift Sale on Thursday and Friday.
"This is for Project Independence through the Auglaize County ESC," autism teacher Cari Fisher said on Friday. "Our students make the crafts. It takes about a year to make all of the stuff."
Fisher added the Santa's Workshop Gift Sale was at St. Marys Intermediate School last week, as well.
ST. MARYS — Four area residents are making a large donation this holiday season to the Grand Miami Disc Golf Course in K.C. Geiger Park.
“Christmas has come early for the disc golf course, it really has,” Grand Miami Disc Golf Course Founder Nate Metz said. “What these guys have done is just amazing. It’s going to add so much more to the park.”
T.C. Cipollone, Dominic Cipollone, Chad Rohrer and Randy Garmen donated $1,000 to put concrete t-pads in the course. Metz said the pads will add a touch of class.
ST. MARYS — A county organization is offering carbon monoxide detectors and weather alert radios to area seniors.
The Auglaize County Council on Aging (ACCA) is offering carbon monoxide detectors and county weather alert radios to seniors, age 60 and over, free of charge.
“We’re keeping them (the carbon monoxide detectors and weather alert radios) for those people in the community that are at age 60 and over,” ACCA Executive Director Christina Roby said.

State Football Attendance Up: The OHSAA state football finals got a bump in attendance this season, drawing 48,695 fans to the sites at Massillon and Canton last weekend, the OHSAA announced on Friday.
That number was nearly 13,000 more people than last year's attendance.
Three teams from the Midwest Athletic Conference and Western Buckeye League played in state championship games, with Marion Local winning the Division VI crown and Coldwater and Kenton losing in the Division V and IV finales, respectively.
ST. MARYS — A local library is looking to get "showered" with toys this holiday season in hopes of enhancing its toy collection.
The St. Marys Community Public Library is hosting "Shower your Library with Toys" through Jan. 7. Youth Services Coordinator Paula Drummond said the drive will replace two sets of toys.
"Some of the toys will be used for circulation, and some of the toys will be kept in-house for our play area," she said.
Drummond said the library is working with a local toy store for the drive.
ST. MARYS — A local networking group presented its first scholarship during its monthly meeting on Thursday.
Members of the Auglaize/Mercer Women in Business Networking Association gathered at Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys to announce the recipient of their first-ever Auglaize/Mercer WiB Program for Continuing Education — a grant to provide financial assistance to women whose education has been interrupted and who find it necessary to resume studies because of changing demands in their lives.
