MAC Girls Hoops Round-Up: New Knoxville downs St. Henry

NEW KNOXVILLE — The New Knoxville girls basketball team built up a lead early and held off the St. Henry Redskins 45-33 in a MAC contest on Thursday night at the Barn.

“We got out in front of them in the key part of the game at the beginning,” Rangers head coach Tim Hegemier said. “We started out strong and got a 10 or 12 point lead and it helps, but we have to be ready to play.”

Paige Lehman scored 21 points and had six rebounds in the game for New Knoxville.

Republican Auglaize County Recorder Christina "Chris" Lambert, who was appointed in September to succeed Ann Billings, is being challenged by Anne Hamilton, a Democrat from New Bremen, according to a news release Wednesday by Auglaize County Elections Board Director Carolyn Campbell.

ST. MARYS — Local students are doing their part to help others this holiday season through an annual community project.

DECA — or Distributive Education Clubs of America — students at Memorial High School are currently holding their Goodfellows drive, where the students put out decorated cans in local businesses to collect money to purchase toys for those in need.

Trustees Discuss New Options For Local Library

ST. MARYS — The St. Marys Community Public Library Board of Trustees prepared for a new year at its regular meeting Wednesday afternoon.

Board members reviewed a staff wish list for 2012 and discussed the possibilities for several items.

“I meet with the staff at the end of the year and I ask them what their needs are for the coming year,” Library Director Sue Pittman said. “Paula, Beth and I got together and added some things based on what we learned at the conference.”

Kenneth H. Ziegenbusch, 84

December 8, 2011

Dr. Kenneth H. Ziegenbusch, 84, of 7295 Oregon Road, Celina, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 18, 1926, in Jackson Township, to Henry W. and Emma (Bergman) Ziegenbusch, and they preceded him in death.

On June 2, 1956, at St. George Catholic Church in Cincinnati, he married Kitty Hunt Jones, and she survives him in Celina.

Gladys L. Kidd, 68

December 8, 2011

Gladys L. Kidd, 68, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.  

She was born on July 26, 1943, in Toledo, to Frederick and Florence (Mosher) Siglow, and they preceded her in death.  

She married Lawrence Kidd, and he survives in Columbus.

Ned A. Glass, 72

December 8, 2011

Ned A. Glass, 72, of 710 Stoneybrook Drive, St. Marys, died at 6:37 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Lima Memorial Health System, in the presence of his loving family.

He was born on March 11, 1939, in Noble Township, to Ivan “Mike” and Ruth (Rasneor) Glass, and they preceded him in death.

On Dec. 26, 1959, at St. Peter’s Evangelical & Reformed Church in New Bremen, he married the love of his life, Christine F. Richey, and she survives.

New Bremen's Messick resigns as head football coach

NEW BREMEN — Rob Messick resigned as head varsity football coach at New Bremen, the school’s board of education announced at its meeting on Thursday night.

Gary Jones, New Bremen athletic director, said on Thursday morning that Messick resigned "a couple weeks after the season."

Messick coached the Cardinals for five seasons, compiling a 12-38 record. His Cardinal teams went  8-31 in Midwest Athletic Conference play.

New Bremen finished the season 0-10, 0-8 in the Midwest Athletic Conference this season.
