Wine Sentenced To Prison Term

WAPAKONETA — Douglas J. Wine was sentenced to 15 months in prison by Auglaize County Common Pleas Judge Frederick Pepple on one count of gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony, during his sentencing hearing today. Wine also was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. He faced a maximum of 18 months in prison. During the hearing, attorneys for Wine noted they planned to file an appeal in the case.

NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville Village Councilors met Tuesday night to hear an update from the village administrator and pass a list of ordinances.

In his report to the board, Village Administrator Rex Katterheinrich updated councilors on an excavation project.

ST. MARYS — The incoming mayor for the city of St. Marys says he plans to have the city’s top position filled by February.

Mayor-elect Patrick McGowan, who takes office Jan. 1, said he is in the process of compiling applications for the safety-service director position. The position became open when current Safety-Service Director Tom Hitchcock was named to the same position for the city of Celina effective Jan. 1.

BOTKINS — New Bremen sophomore Julie Brown’s jumper with five seconds left allowed the Cardinals to defeat the Botkins Trojans 50-48 on Monday night.

Virgil H. Stienecker, 89

Virgil H. Stienecker, 89, of 1300 Circle Drive, St. Marys, died at 6:55 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at Otterbein Retirement Community in St. Marys.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1922, in rural St. Marys, the son of Leander and Lanora (Dohse) Stienecker, and they preceded him in death.

On Aug. 29, 1948, at the Zion Lutheran Church in St. Marys, he married Marjorie Schmehl, and she survives at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Commnunity.

Adrian R. Settlage, 89

Adrian R. Settlage, 89, of 11780 State Route 29, New Knoxville, died suddenly at 4:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, in the emergency department of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.

He was born on June 27, 1922, on the farm where he currently resided, the son of William and Ida (Wellman) Settlage, and they preceded him in death.

On March 6, 1948, he married Martha Maneke, and she survives at the residence.

ST. MARYS — City councilors received an update regarding the possibility of a multi-million dollar payment to cover costs associated with a now-defunct AMP power plant project.

Riders Inducted Into NHS

ST. MARYS — A group of juniors and seniors joined their peers in officially becoming members of a national scholarship group.

Fifteen juniors and one senior joined the 17 members of Memorial High School’s National Honor Society through the induction ceremony held Sunday night.

During the ceremony, NHS President Anthony Tenney welcomed those in attendance for the ceremony.

CELINA — The St. Marys boys and girls swim teams won in a three-team event at the YMCA on Saturday night.

The Roughrider girls team won with 132 points. New Bremen finished second with 100 points. Fort Recovery had 22 points.

Robert W. Huckeriede, 78

Robert W. Huckeriede, 78, of 2405 Kensington Drive, St. Marys, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.

He was born on Nov. 17, 1933, in Auglaize County, to Wilbur and A. Ruth (Steva) Huckeriede, and they preceded him in death.

On May 5, 1956, in the Evangelical and Reformed Church in New Knoxville, he married Shirley Janelle Kuck, and she survives.
