Rosemary T. Menker, 76, St. Marys, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at Otterbein Retirement Center, St. Marys.
She was born on May 9, 1935, in Fort Loramie, to William and Theresa (Sherman) Albers, and they preceded her in death.
On July 2, 1955, she married Norman U. Menker, and he survives at Otterbein.
Charles M. “Bud” Hay, 92, of 205 N. Jefferson St., New Bremen, died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at the Elmwood of New Bremen.
He was born on Feb. 25, 1919, in St. Marys, the son of Charles I. and Matty Marie (Schlechty) Hay, and they preceded him in death.
On Oct. 19, 1946, he married Louise Moeller, and she preceded him in death on March 30, 2008.
Jane Goodwin, 66, of 127 S. Wayne St., St. Marys, died suddenly on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at her residence.
She was born on May 10, 1945, in St. Marys, the daughter of Orville and Helen (Schelby) Miars, and her father preceded her in death. Her mother survives her in St. Marys.
ST. MARYS — Students from the Mercer and Auglaize county area took time out of their school day to serve an early Thanksgiving meal as part of an annual fundraiser.
The students at the Tri Star Dennings Building in St. Marys prepared and served an early Thanksgiving dinner for their peers, administrators and others during the annual event on Wednesday.
ST. MARYS — A local organization is working to raise money through collecting used shoes.
The Family Life Center of Auglaize County is hosting the Barney the Shoeman Program, in conjunction with the Hands Across the Sea Foundation, through Nov. 30. The program "gives your old shoes a second chance, and makes shoes affordable to those who otherwise must go bare-foot," according to the Hands Across the Sea Foundation's website.
ST. MARYS — As bargain hunters braved the early morning hours today in search of deals, an army of retailers were hard at work beforehand prepping local stores.
“We’ve been preparing for a couple of weeks now,” St. Marys J.C. Penney Store Manager Peggy Martin said. “Our schedule is done three weeks in advance so we know who will be working and we are working on getting the merchandise ready to go. So, it’s been more than a few days of preparing.”

The Minster boys basketball team has determined dates for a pair of make-up games from postponements due to the football team's playoff run.
Minster's game against Sidney Lehman Catholic will be played on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 2.
Minster's game against Anna will be played on Saturday, Jan. 21. at 6:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3
SIDNEY — A 3-year-old girl was killed on Tuesday following a collision with a car.
According to a news release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Riverside Drive at approximately 5:39 p.m. to a report of a car that collided with a child.
Deputies determined a 2005 Hyundai was traveling west on Riverside Drive (Ohio 47), when a child ran into its path. The driver attempted an evasive measure in order to avoid hitting the child but was unable to do so. The vehicle struck the child in the roadway.
NEW BREMEN — During their meeting Tuesday evening, area councilors took the first step in addressing an issue that comes up each winter.
New Bremen Village Councilors passed the first reading of the ordinance to enact street parking regulations when snow reaches a certain height.
New Bremen Police Chief Doug Harrod noted the village has had an issue with being able to plow public streets because of parked cars.
