Vernis Glen Hanna, 89, of 1311 Fairground Road, in Celina, died at 8:05 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2012, at the Celina Manor Nursing Home in Celina.
He was born on Feb. 28, 1923, in Darke County, to Garnet and Daisy (Norris) Hanna, and they preceded him in death.
On Jan. 27, 1950, he married Martha Brown, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 4, 2011.
He is survived by his sons, Ray (Ruth) Hanna, Paul (Phyllis) Hanna, Dave (Deb) Hanna and Mark (Patricia) Hanna, all of Celina; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers; a sister.
Scott Garman, 54, of 112 Wild Cherry St., Celina, died at 9:53 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born on Dec. 28, 1957, in Celina, to James C. Sr. and Rosanne (Schmidt) Garman, and his mother preceded him in death. His father survives him in Frankfort, Ky.
On June 7, 1997, he married Mary Beth Harrington, and she survives him in Celina.
NEW KNOXVILLE — Students at New Knoxville School were evacuated Tuesday afternoon and the building searched by an area bomb squad.
Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon told The Evening Leader a phone call at 1:54 p.m. by a school employee triggered an investigation that included the Lima Bomb Squad searching the school. Solomon said the students were evacuated a “safe distance away” from the school and parents were notified via the school district’s policy.
NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville Local School is continuing to move ahead with plans to implement new standards next year in preparation for the coming state mandates, which will be in effect for the 2014-15 school year, Superintendent Kim Waterman said Monday night at the New Knoxville Board of Education meeting.

NEW BREMEN — A group of area women got a workout in Saturday morning at New Bremen High School while raising money for cancer research.
ST. MARYS — Area families packed the hallways of St. Marys Primary School Saturday night for an annual spring festival.
The St. Marys PTO’s eighth annual Spring Fun Fest kicked off at 4 p.m. and ran to 8 p.m., featuring a variety of games, prizes and food. Kids lined up outside of classrooms, waiting to play the more than 20 games at the festival, including staples like the Tunnel of Terror, Just Dance and the cake walk. Attendees also enjoyed face painting, prizes and a variety of snacks, including pizza, popcorn and cotton candy.

ST. MARYS — The local DARE deputy spoke with high school students to speak with them about the dangers of sexting and being too liberal with their personal information on the Internet, such as on social media sites.
“It’s a serious problem across the United States, and it is a problem here in St. Marys,” Memorial High School teacher Monica VanderHorst said to her health students about sexting.
Blank noted he visits all the schools in Auglaize County.
