Rodney A. Whetstone, 48

March 1, 2012

Rodney A. Whetstone, 48, of Wapakoneta, died on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at his brother’s home in Okeana.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1964, in Lima, to Robert and Connie (Link) Whetstone, and they preceded him in death.

He is survived by a daughter and fiancé, Ginny Rohrer and Thomas Anderson of Wapakoneta; a stepson, Jaye Helton of Lima; a granddaughter; two brothers.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during the Libyan War.  

Michael S. Boley, 68

Michael S. Boley, 68, of Corinth, Miss., formerly of Mendon, died on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at Centennial Hospital in Ashland City, Tenn.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1943, in Piqua, to Roger M. Boley and Grace I. Shane Boley, and his father preceded him in death. His mother survives in Celina.

On April 29, 1967, he married Cheryl Adams, and she survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Julie (George) Huttick of Clarksville, Tenn.; a brother-in-law; a grandson.

Joseph G. Brandewie, 85

Joseph G. Brandewie, 85, of 11251 Brandewie Road, Fort Loramie, died at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at Lima Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Feb. 21, 1927, in Fort Loramie, to Lawrence and Lietta (Bensman) Brandewie, and they preceded him in death along with his stepmother Lucille (Bornhorst) Brandewie.

On July 16, 1949, in Fort Loramie, he married Virginia Schafer, and she survives in Fort Loramie.

Tickets for New Bremen’s Friday night sectional final game against St. Henry will be sold at the High School office on Thursday March 1 from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and from 7  p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tickets will also be sold on Friday from 7:45 a.m. until 8:15 a.m. at the Junior High and from 8:30 until 4 p.m. at the High School.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Greve's 3-pointer bounces St. Marys from tourney

LIMA — Good Greve, it happened again.

For the second time in five days, a 3-pointer in the final seconds downed the St. Marys boys basketball team.

The latest heartbreaker ended the Riders' season.

Wapakoneta junior guard Alex Greve knocked down a 3-pointer from the left wing with 1.5 seconds left to lift Wapakoneta to a 43-40 win over rival St. Marys in a Division II sectional semifinal at Lima Senior on Tuesday night.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Minster knocks New Knoxville out of tourney

COLDWATER —  Defense and hot shooting allowed the Minster Wildcats to open Division IV sectional play at Coldwater with a 58-48 victory over the New Knoxville Rangers.

“It is a nice time of the year to be shooting 47 percent,” Wildcats head coach Mike Lee said. “That has been our bugaboo the past couple weeks. It is tournament time and we have stressed from the get go that games are won by what you do defensively and how well you rebound the basketball.”

Sue Thompson, 73

Sue Thompson, 73, of 118 Ohio St., St. Marys, died at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at the Lima Manor Nursing Home.

She was born on Aug. 20, 1938, in Indianapolis, Ind., the daughter of Clarence and Thelma (Kent) Thompson, and they preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sister, Sharon Hoenie of Mendon; a niece, Shyla (Dan) Houser of Mendon; two great-nephews, Camdan and Ashdan Houser.

Sue was preceded in death by a great-nephew, Jordan Houser.

Margaret L. Rider, 80

February 29, 2012

Margaret L. Rider, 80, of 160 Watercrest Drive, St. Marys, died at 11:05 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at her residence.

She was born on Sept. 12, 1931, in Rossburg, to Jesse and Edith (Compton) Ross, and they preceded her in death.

On June 27, 1953, at Shook’s Chapel in Darke County, she married Allen L. Rider, and he survives.
