Robert Dieringer, 91, of Social Circle, Ga., died at 4:14 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at his residence.
Born on June 25, 1920, in St. Marys. He was the son of the late Frank Dieringer and the late Minnie Wieser Dieringer..
SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — In a season of close calls and frustrating endings, the regular season and Western Buckeye League finale might’ve delivered the most powerful punch to the St. Marys boys basketball team’s collective stomach yet.
Shawnee’s Thad Vernon hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Shawnee Indians to a 57-55 victory over St. Marys on Friday night.
NEW BREMEN — Two years ago Fort Recovery had a chance at the outright MAC title, but after a lengthy delay because of fire alarms, new Bremen came back to spoil the party and share a piece of the title.
This time the Indians stayed out of theblotter and atop the MAC standings.
ST. MARYS — A city official says residents who are not adhering to rules regarding refuse collection are adding to his department’s costs.
St. Marys Solidwaste Supervisor Doug Metz said some residents are not following tag and size rules regarding refuse collection. Some residents try to skirt the tag requirements by placing too much garbage in bags or by using oversized containers.
ST. MARYS — It has been an ag-filled week at St. Marys Memorial High School this week as a group of local students have been showcasing the agriculture community as part of an annual event.
This week was National FFA Week, and Memorial High School students had put on various activities to celebrate the week designated to bring light to agriculture.
“It’s fun,” FFA Student Adviser Austin Zumbroegel said. “We get to express the farming side of us.”
Miriam E. Engh, 94, a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, and formerly of 1614 Brown’s Lake Drive, Burlington, Wis., died at 8:46 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Otterbein-St. Marys.
She was born on Aug. 8, 1917, in Westville, Okla., the daughter of Bert and Nevada (Sparks) Neel.
She married Raymond K. Engh on Jan. 6, 1945, in Tulsa, Okla., and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1996.
Jack R. Adams Sr., 80, of Lima, died on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at his residence in Lima.
Born on Thursday, Jan. 14, 1932, in Lima, he was the son of Louis Adams and Harriet Pryor Adams, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 6, 1954, he married Rose E. Point who died on Nov. 18, 2011.
He served in the Army from 1949 until 1952 and was a veteran of the Korean War.
He retired from Ford Motor Company after 37 years of service and enjoyed caring for his large garden.

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee's Thad Vernon hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Shawnee a 57-55 win over St. Marys on Friday night.
St. Marys' Garet Fledderjohann scored 15 points to lead the Roughriders. D.J. Manning added 14 points and J.D. Meyer had 11 points. Austin James added nine points on three 3-pointers.
Vernon led Shawnee with 15 points along with Seth Rosenbauer's 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Drew Charlson’s first race at Daytona International Speedway was everything he could ask for.
In his first race at Daytona and in his second career ARCA start, the 19-year old New Bremen resident finished runner-up to eight-time Daytona winner Bobby Gerhart in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 last weekend.
“To come here and finish second to one of the best racers ever at Daytona is simply a dream come true,” Charlson said.
CANTON — A pair of area swimmers took to the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton on Thursday for state competition.
Jared Deubler, a St. Marys sophomore, competed in the preliminary in the boys Division II OHSAA swimming and diving championships on Thursday.
Deubler, making his second trip to state in his two seasons at St. Marys, finished 22nd in the boys 100 yard backstroke event. Deubler finished with a 56.25-second time. Deubler qualified for the state meet with a 56.02-second time.
