TRACK: New Bremen sweeps tri, Rangers do well individually

FORT RECOVERY – The New Bremen girls and boys track teams both won a tri-meet at Fort Recovery that also featured athletes from New Knoxville.

The New Bremen girls  scored 79 points, Fort Recovery was second with 48 points and New Knoxville earned 26 points.

The Cardinal boys team piled up 102 points, New Knoxville was second with 40 points and Fort Recovery had 33 points in third.

Rider tennis sweeps Van Wert, 5-0

VAN WERT — The St. Marys boys tennis team evened its record in Western Buckeye League play with a 5-0 sweep over Van Wert on Tuesday night.

The Roughriders are 3-2 on the season, 1-1 in the WBL.

Troy Newlove captured first singles with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over Nathan Knodel.

Cole Brooks defeated Jon Lisa in second singles, 6-4, 6-4.

Rider third singles player Jason Freewalt beat Alex Bair, 6-3, 6-3.

M. Parker McGlothen, 74

M. Parker McGlothen, 74, of 706 S. Main St., St. Marys, died at 12:48 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at his residence.

He was born on Aug. 2, 1937, in Martin, Ky., the son of Morton and Edythe (Hagans) McGlothen, and they preceded him in death.

On Oct. 6, 1956, he married Vivian Bevans, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1981. On April 11, 2003, he married Ruth Snyder, and she survives at the residence.

Jonathan M. Everage, 30

Jonathan M. Everage, 30, of Silver City, N.M., formerly of St. Marys, died on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Gila Regional Medical Center in Grant County, N.M.

He was born on Jan. 17, 1982, in St. Marys, the son of George and Kathy (Mabry) Everage, and they survive him in St. Marys.

On Oct. 1, 2004, he married Anastasia Dow, and she survives in Anaheim, Calif.

Edward McGillvary, 74

April 3, 2012

Edward McGillvary, 74, of Celina, died on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at his residence.

He was born on July 13, 1937, in Mendon, to Orville and Dorothy (Skinner) McGillvary, and they preceded him in death.

On Oct. 6, 1962, he married Judy Huwer, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 2002.

He is survived by a son, Brett (Stacy) McGillvary of Celina; three daughters, Deborah McGillvary of Celina, Brenda (Jeff) Severns of Mendon and Susie (Dave) Staugler of Celina; a brother; a sister; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Latta Talks Energy

ST. MARYS — An Ohio Congressman says the Obama administration is hindering domestic energy development with unnecessary regulations and restrictions.

“We have to have energy,” 5th District U.S. Rep. Bob Latta, a Republican, told The Evening Leader during a visit to its office Monday. “Ohio gets 85 percent of its energy from coal. They put more regulations on it ... If the EPA and President Obama keep putting higher standards on that, it’s going to get to the point to where these companies won’t be able to keep meeting them.”

Alum Hits Grand Lake St. Marys

CELINA — Two barges, hundreds of loads from tanker trucks and 45-days are all key ingredients in a process aimed at locking up phosphorus in Grand Lake St. Marys to prevent algae blooms.

HAB Aquatic Solutions — the firm that handled last year’s application — started its lakewide alum application Monday from the west bank of Grand Lake St. Marys. John C. Holz, water quality specialist with HAB Aquatic Solutions, took state and local officials on a tour of the staging area as a barge refueled its tanks with alum.

Another win over a Midwest Athletic Conference team has the St. Marys baseball team entering Western Buckeye League play in its best early-season position in five years.

The Roughriders collected a third win out of the last four games played against a MAC opponent with a patient offensive approach in a 7-3 win over New Bremen on Monday night at K.C. Geiger Park.

St. Marys at 4-2  has its best record through six games since 2007, when the Riders started the season 5-1.
