Alverta Eileen Holsheiser, 95, a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, formerly of Springfield, Ill., died at 1:23 a.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.
She was born on April 26, 1917, in Girard, Ill., the daughter of Otis and Vega (Shull) Riffey, and they preceded her in death.
On Dec. 10, 1937, she married Charles H. Holsheiser, and he preceded her in death on April 7, 1999.
The Rev. George Shreve Freer, 76, retired minister with the Evangelical Friends Church, died on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., following a brief illness.
He was born on July 29, 1935, in Cleveland, to Robert D. and Eunice J. Shreve Freer, and they preceded him in death.
On Aug. 4, 1957, he married Martha Remy Freer, and she survives in Bellville.
Murlin George Doseck, 78, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:48 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on April 26, 1934, near Minster, the son of Christopher and Julianna (Behr) Doseck, and they preceded him in death.
On July 23, 1960, he married Marilyn S. Debell, and she survives.
CELINA — Emergency crews responded to a call of a possible drowning at Celina’s Eastview Park on Tuesday evening. Central Dispatch received a 911 call at 7:29 p.m. Tuesday reporting that a subject had gone under while swimming at the pond. The Celina Fire Department and Celina Police Department responded to the call. Fire department personnel pulled the victim from the water shortly after arriving on the scene.
ST. MARYS — According to the Rev. Ed Bray, war is insane, a fact that the greatest warriors know, and warriors face battles to restore sanity.
“It is up to those great warriors to engage the battles against the insanity — where they feel the heat, where they feel the pain, where they experience the taste of their own blood, where they take their last breath of life in order for sanity to once again prevail,” Bray said to a crowd gathered in Elm Grove Cemetery Monday morning for the annual St. Marys American Legion Post 323 Memorial Day Service.
Paul M. Stukenborg, 83, formerly of Garfield Street, Minster, died at 3 a.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home.
He was born on March 8, 1929, in Minster, to Joseph and Anna (Bergman) Stukenborg, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by a sister-in-law.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster, with the Rev. Rick Nieberding celebrant. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.
Johnathon K. Geiger, 24, of Chickasaw, died on Friday, May 25, 2012, after an automobile accident.
He was born on Aug. 26, 1987, in Van Wert, to Kevin Geiger and Amy Rasawehr.
Johnathon is survived by his father, Kevin L. and De Ann Geiger of Celina; his mother, Amy (Rasawehr) Clifford of Celina; his fiancee, Chelsey Kremer of St. Henry; four brothers; two sisters; his maternal grandparents; his paternal grandparents; his maternal great-grandfather; his father-in-law; his mother-in-law; his niece; his nephew; his Godchildren.
Herman B. Clayton, 66, of St. Marys, formerly of Spencerville, died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at his daughter’s residence in St. Marys.
He was born on Sept. 10, 1945, in Earle, Ark., to Clyde and Nellie (Andrews) Clayton, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by four children, Susan Bradford of Harrogate, Tenn., Amanda (Verlin Jr.) Orick of Celina, Jason (Lola) Clayton of St. Marys and Brandy (Shawn Dunlap) Clayton of St. Marys; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four siblings.
Hasroe Ward, 84, of 502 Normandy Drive, St. Marys, died at 1:58 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Saint Marys.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1927, in Floyd County, Ky., the son of Joe and Martha “Patsy” (Thornsberry) Ward, and they preceded him in death.
On Oct. 31, 1981, he married Phyllis J. Steinke, and she survives at the residence.
Robert S. Nagel, 83, of New Bremen, died at 1:02 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2012, at the Kindred Hospital in Lima.
He was born on July 23, 1928, in Minster, the son of Charles and Odillia (Schwieterman) Nagel.
