ST. MARYS — In the wake of a string of home invasions stretching from Lima to Dayton, a local police chief says there are a handful of things residents can do to keep homes — and themselves — safe from criminals.
“You should trust your intuition,” St. Marys Police Chief Greg Foxhoven said. “Animals have it. If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.”

NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen Cardinals put together a winning 10-deep effort against the St. Marys Roughriders.
New Bremen put nine players in the scorebook and went on a 9-0 spurt late in the third quarter to take control of a 65-58 win against St. Marys.
SPENCERVILLE — Derek Goecke’s short jump shot with three seconds left in double overtime proved to be the game winner, as the Bearcats defeated the Minster Wildcats, 55-53, on Friday night.
“We went late to our ball screen action,” Spencerville head coach Kevin Sensabaugh said. “It worked for us because they had trouble defending the ball screen late and we felt we had a little advantage. We asked Eli (Bowers) where he wanted to catch the ball and him and Derek (Goecke) had a two-man game on the weak side and they executed and scored.”
FORT RECOVERY — Investigators say they have made some progress in the double homicide of a father and daughter last month in Fort Recovery.
In a news release, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said deputies and agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation from the Ohio Attorney General's Office Special Investigation Unit continue to comb evidence in the murders of Robert and Colleen Grube. The father and daughter were found bound and murdered on Nov. 30 in rural Fort Recovery.
NEW BREMEN — For New Bremen resident Jacki Love, putting together memorials for local servicemen and women really is a labor of love.
Love started putting organizing different ways to recognize those who are serving in the armed forces a few years ago, and she recently has set up a holiday recognition for them in the form of a Christmas tree, which will be up through the holidays.
MINSTER — During his time serving in Iraq, SPC Patrick Minnich received calendars from his wife full with acts of kindness she had encountered from the community.
