Paul M. Stukenborg, 83, formerly of Garfield Street, Minster, died at 3 a.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home.
He was born on March 8, 1929, in Minster, to Joseph and Anna (Bergman) Stukenborg, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by a sister-in-law.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster, with the Rev. Rick Nieberding celebrant. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.
Johnathon K. Geiger, 24, of Chickasaw, died on Friday, May 25, 2012, after an automobile accident.
He was born on Aug. 26, 1987, in Van Wert, to Kevin Geiger and Amy Rasawehr.
Johnathon is survived by his father, Kevin L. and De Ann Geiger of Celina; his mother, Amy (Rasawehr) Clifford of Celina; his fiancee, Chelsey Kremer of St. Henry; four brothers; two sisters; his maternal grandparents; his paternal grandparents; his maternal great-grandfather; his father-in-law; his mother-in-law; his niece; his nephew; his Godchildren.
Herman B. Clayton, 66, of St. Marys, formerly of Spencerville, died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at his daughter’s residence in St. Marys.
He was born on Sept. 10, 1945, in Earle, Ark., to Clyde and Nellie (Andrews) Clayton, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by four children, Susan Bradford of Harrogate, Tenn., Amanda (Verlin Jr.) Orick of Celina, Jason (Lola) Clayton of St. Marys and Brandy (Shawn Dunlap) Clayton of St. Marys; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four siblings.
Hasroe Ward, 84, of 502 Normandy Drive, St. Marys, died at 1:58 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Saint Marys.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1927, in Floyd County, Ky., the son of Joe and Martha “Patsy” (Thornsberry) Ward, and they preceded him in death.
On Oct. 31, 1981, he married Phyllis J. Steinke, and she survives at the residence.
Robert S. Nagel, 83, of New Bremen, died at 1:02 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2012, at the Kindred Hospital in Lima.
He was born on July 23, 1928, in Minster, the son of Charles and Odillia (Schwieterman) Nagel.
Frances “Frankie” Bowling, 73, of 125 East Bank Road, St. Marys, died at 3:03 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born on July 17, 1938, in Wayland, Ky., to Roy and Sarah (Banks) Lykins, and they preceded her in death.
On July 20, 1957, in Rockholds, Ky., she married Frank Bowling, and he survives.
LEXINGTON — Kelly Heitkamp, a St. Marys Memorial junior, qualified for the state tournament in the girls pole vault with a third-place finish at the Division II regional meet at Lexington on Saturday.
Heitkamp cleared nine feet, six inches — one of seven vaulters to hit that mark. Heitkamp won the tiebreaker (the vaulters' second-best vaults are compared) to tie for third with Liberty-Benton's Alex Johnson.
Heitkamp will compete at state at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus on Saturday, June 2 at 9 a.m.
TIPP CITY — The Covington Buccs jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held off a late Minster rally for a 9-6 win in a Division IV regional final game at Tipp City Tippecanoe Middle School on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats bow out of the tournament after the longest postseason run in the program's history. Minster ended its season at 23-7.
Minster spotted the Buccs eight runs before bringing the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh.
Covington moves on to play in the state semifinals on Thursday in Akron.
TROY — Minster’s win in the boys 4-by-400 meter relay in the night’s final event in record regional time propelled the Minster boys track team to the Division III regional title on Friday night.
The Wildcat boys finished with 57 points to edge out second-place finishers Covington and West Liberty Salem, who both had 52 points.
The Minster girls finished second behind Versailles. Minster had 49 points while the victorious Tigers had 66.5 points.
