WAPAKONETA — The grand champion market steer’s selling price, setting a new high-water mark for steers, highlighted the second day of the Auglaize County Fair livestock auction, but for the second consecutive year an emotional moment caused tears to flow for bidders and two exhibitors.
Caitlin Schaub sold the grand champion market steer for $20,000 to five buyers, far eclipsing the $11,600 paid for Paige Klopfenstein’s grand champion market steer last year.
ST. MARYS — Seven girls took to the stage on Sunday night, vying for the title of 2012 SummerFest Queen — in the end Brooke Hertenstein walked away with the crown and sash in front of a packed crowd at Memorial High School.
“It’s pretty exciting,” Hertenstein told The Evening Leader moments after being crowned. “I was not expecting it at all because I know all the girls did a pretty good job and I know it was really close.”
Mark A. Borger, 56, of 659 N. Sugar St., Celina, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at the Kindred Hospital in Lima.
He was born on June 14, 1956, in Celina, to the late Alfred (Haps) and Dorothy (Wendel) Borger.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law; sisters and brothers-in-law; a brother-in-law; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother and by a sister.
Evan Alexander Quinn, 20 months, of Mendon, died on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 23, 2010, in Coldwater, to James and Karen (Depweg) Quinn.
He is survived by two brothers, Mason and Aiden; a grandmother, Susan Quinn of Neptune.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Savannah and grandparents Werner and Carla Depweg. Private family services will be held.

Eunice P. Boggs 79, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at Auglaize Acres.

Phyllis E. Cox, 83, of New Bremen, died at 6:55 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at the St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1929, in Springfield. She was the daughter of Forrest and Willa (Hall) McCaughey. On July 3, 1948, she married James Cox who died on Aug. 9, 1990.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Judy) Cox of Cleveland, Thomas (Marion) Cox of Austin, Texas, Susan (David) Gibboney of Troy and Jamie (Patrick) Lampert of New Bremen; seven grandchildren; four great-grandsons; her sister, Helen Wheaton of Leesburg.
Madison E. Pusser, 17, of New Albany, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at her residence.
She was born on Jan. 22, 1995, in Columbus, to Douglas K. and Suzann E. (Huckeriede) Pusser who survive in New Albany.
Wayne Heindel, 75, of Rockford, died at 5:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Van Wert County Hospital, Van Wert, of natural causes.
He was born on March 7, 1937, in Celina, to Ted Heindel and Lucille Hone, who preceded him in death. On June 21, 1959, he married Dories Heidt, who survives him.
He is also survived by a son, Allen (Mary) Heindel of Celina; a daughter, Alane (Nick) Johnson of New Haven, Ind.; a brother, Keith (Crista) Heindel of Celina; a sister, Geraldine (James) Miracle of Celina; four grandchildren; eight great-granchildren.
WAPAKONETA — An impaired Wapakoneta man struck the cruiser of a trooper from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) and then attempted to flee the scene.
WAPAKONETA — A Wapakoneta man was killed in a wrong-way collision early Saturday morning on Interstate 75 near Cridersville.
At 12:55 a.m., dispatchers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) began receiving several reports of a pickup truck being driven south in the northbound lanes and troopers from both the Wapakoneta and Lima posts responded in an attempt to intercept the wrong-way motorist.
OSHP Commander Lt. Scott Carrico said before they were able to reach the motorist, he struck a commercial motor vehicle in a head-on collision.
