S. Margaret Koons, 92, formerly of 730 Hillcrest Drive, St. Marys, and a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, died at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Otterbein St. Marys.
She was born on June 3, 1921, the daughter of Joe and Agnes (Lawler) Gearing. She married George Koons on Aug. 10, 1946, and he survives at Otterbein St. Marys.
She is also survived by her four children, Michael (Mary Jo) Koons of Vandalia, William (Nancy) Koons of Chagrin Falls, Jeanetta (Mark) Muhlenkamp of Englewood, and Barb (Ken) Niekamp of Centerville.
ST. MARYS — The Rotary Club’s annual Halloween parade and costume contest will be held today. Judging for the costume contest starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Chestnut Street parking lot. The parade starts at 6 p.m. and is only open to children.
Jack D. Kuck, 83, of 211 Botkins Angle Road, New Knoxville, died at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born on Sept. 7, 1930, in Lima, the son of Harvey and Meta (Kuck) Kuck.
He married Jean Feight on July 14, 1956, and she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his two sons, Matthew Kuck (Janice Dutton) of Wapakoneta and Mike Kuck of New Knoxville, by four grandchildren, Mark Kuck, Christopher Kuck, Natalie Arn and Stewart Kuck, by five great-grandchildren.
Opal L. Pugh, 79, formerly of Greenville Road in St. Marys, died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at her residence in Hudson, Fla., surround by her loving family.
She was born on Feb. 1, 1934, in Chillicothe, to Hommie Lee and Margaret (Burnette) Cooper.
On Jan. 31, 1950, in Richmond, Ind., she married Junior O. Pugh, who died on Nov. 16, 2009.
TIFFIN — In her first season of running cross country, St. Marys’ Kristen Dammeyer is headed to state.
The Roughrider senior finished 13th overall in the girls Division II regional meet at Tiffin on Saturday to advance to next Saturday’s state championship meet at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, just outside of Columbus. The Division II girls run at 11:45 a.m.
Dammeyer ran a 19:37.72 on a frosty Saturday that had runners battling the course, opponents and some cold winds sweeping across Hedges Boyer Park.
ELIDA — The St. Marys boys soccer team has been talking about its objective for weeks now — get to state.
With another 1-0 win — this time in the lair of their opponent — the Roughriders got a step closer in a Division II district championship game win over Elida on Saturday night with an early goal and more of its trademark stingy defense.
The district championship is the first in the 18-year history of the Roughrider boys soccer program.
OTTAWA — Ottawa-Glandorf lined up senior Tyler Zender all over the field — at running back, at fullback, in the wing, at wideout and in the slot — and found all kinds of ways to let the 6-foot-3, 180-pounder make big plays in a 47-0 win over the St. Marys football team on Friday night at chilly Titan Stadium.
