ST. MARYS — St. Marys sophomore Derek Jay hit two free throws with 7.8 seconds left to lift the Roughrider boys basketball team over Troy 46-45 on Tuesday night.
St. Marys trailed by seven points early in the fourth quarter, rallied to take a five-point lead in the game’s final minute behind some clutch shooting by Josh Young and then watched as Troy stormed back to take a one point lead.
ST. MARYS — Members of local law enforcement are reminding area citizens that if they choose to drink and get behind the wheel during the holiday season, they are endangering their own lives as well as the lives of others.
It’s not hard to see why. According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, “during this year’s five-day Christmas Holiday reporting period of Dec. 24 at 12 a.m. through Dec. 28 at 11:59 p.m., 10 people were killed in 10 fatal crashes, with five of the fatal crashes attributed to impaired driving.”

ST. MARYS — With almost 100 school shootings across the nation since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December 2012, many local law enforcement agencies are stepping up to prepare for an active shooter scenario.
ST. MARYS — In St. Marys Saturday, Tom Kentner, of Wapakoneta, and his family strode the Fowler’s TV store weighing the benefits of different television models and wrapping up the end of the holiday buying season with other shoppers looking to score the best prices from retailers clearing out leftover Christmas inventory.
Becky Fowler, of Fowler’s TV, said this year’s Christmas season outpaced last year’s, and the National Federation of Retailers (NFR) statistics supported that as a national trend.

ST. MARYS — The St. Marys boys basketball team attacked the rim in the opening minutes, pulling down 12 offensive rebounds in the first quarter and took control from there in a 77-62 Western Buckeye League-opening victory at Memorial High School.
St. Marys big man Quinn Zaerr scored a team-high 23 points, Derek Jay had 21 points and Josh Young added 17 points for the Roughriders, who move to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
