Above Average Numbers Cast Absentee Votes

ST. MARYS — Absentee voting has gotten off to a brisk start in Auglaize County.

As of Thursday, 2,467 residents requested absentee ballots be mailed to them ahead of the Nov. 4 General Election. Auglaize County Elections Board Director Michelle Wilcox said of that number, approximately 1,000 have be returned to the board of elections office.

Ray “Rebel” A. Jarrells, 83

Ray “Rebel” A. Jarrells, 83, of 315 E. Spring St. in New Knoxville, died at 4:53 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.

He was born on Jan. 6, 1931, in Nolan, W.Va., to Dee and Iva (Sparks) Jarrells, both of whom preceded him in death.

On Dec. 22, 1949, in Pikeville, Ky., he married Wanda L. Cook, who survives.

Loretta D. Kill, 69

October 23, 2014

Loretta D. Kill, 69, of St. Marys, died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at Otterbein Living Center in St. Marys.

She was born on Sept. 19, 1945, to Aloysius and Rose Mary Elwer Kill who preceded her in death.

She was a graduate of Spencerville High School, Class of 1963.

Loretta was a veteran with the U.S. Air Force.  She was recognized as the first woman in the PA Air National Guard to attain the status of first sergeant and retired as senior master sergeant in 1999.

Stephen D. Lawson, 57

Stephen D. Lawson, 57, of 1033 Hendricks Ave., St. Marys, died unexpectedly at 9:10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

He was born on May 17, 1957, in Richmond, Ind., the son of Phillip and Della (Anderson) Lawson.

He married Carolyn Teague, and she died suddenly on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014.

Carolyn Lawson, 57, of 1033 Hendricks Ave., St. Marys, died suddenly at 11:59 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, in the emergency department of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1957, in Jelico, Tenn., the daughter of Hewil and Evelyn (Orick) Teague.

She married Stephen Lawson, and he died on Monday.

Kenneth C. Albers, 54

Kenneth C. Albers, 54, of Minster, died on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at his residence.  

He was born on Oct. 20, 1960, in St. Marys, to the late Ralph and Rosemary C. (Riethman) Albers.  

His mother survives in New Bremen.
