Nellie C. House, 92

May 7, 2013

Nellie C. House, 92, of 11810 Mallard Lane, St. Marys, died at 12:15 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.

She was born on Aug. 23, 1920, in Dayton, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Truebenbach) Miller.

She married Roy C. House on Nov. 5, 1941, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 2003.

District Talks Project

NEW BREMEN — While many people are focused to the primary election today, in New Bremen, school officials are looking at the November ballot to decide whether to go forward seeking funding for a building project, and, if they go forward, where to locate the building.

On Monday, the New Bremen Board of Education listened to citizens and answered concerns, hearing an audience that seemed overall in favor of putting a levy on the fall ballot, despite the failure to pass a levy last year.

Minster to hire Urbana's Stokes as head football coach

MINSTER —  Minster again sought out a young, hungry coach to lead its football program.

After a record-setting three-year run under Nate Moore, the Wildcats will turn to Urbana's Geron Stokes to keep a program that has been to the playoffs three straight seasons and became one of the Midwest Athletic Conference's most consistent winners on the rise.

Minster is expected to hire Stokes as its head football coach, pending approval from the school board at its meeting on May 20.

Cardinal Invitational

NEW BREMEN — Going into the final race of the day the St. Henry Redskins boys’ team trailed Sidney Lehman by one point, but in the 3200 relay the Redskins won the race to defeat Sidney Lehman 94-85 to win the 13th annual Cardinal Invitational in a sunny, sunsplashed New Bremen on Saturday.

On the girls side Russia pulled away at the end to defeat Marion Local 134-120. Spencerville was third with 88 points and Sidney was fourth with 78. St. Marys was fifth with 73 and New Bremen was sixth with 33 points. New Knoxville was 12th with 15 points.

Tourists Flock To Sites

NEW BREMEN — Local residents became tourists this weekend as they rediscovered — and discovered — historical jewels across Auglaize County.

The Auglaize County Historical Society hosted Be A Tourist In Your Own Hometown, which encouraged residents to visit 12 locations across the county. Tourists got their passports stamped at each location they visited.

David and Joy Miller, of Moulton, stopped by the Bicycle Museum of America Saturday afternoon. The Millers noted it was their first trip to the museum.

Nellie House, 92, of St. Marys, died on Friday May 3, 2013, at her residence. Arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Homes in St. Marys.

William Frey, 68

May 6, 2013

William Frey, 68, of rural New Knoxville, died on Sunday May 5, 2013, in the emergency department of JTDM Hospital in St. Marys. Arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Homes in St. Marys.

Mary Ann Fleck, 71

May 6, 2013

Mary Ann Fleck, 71, of 44429 Fairground Road in Celina, left the loving care of her family at 9:38 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, from the Lima Memorial Hospital to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven.

She was born on July 19, 1941, to the late Arthur and Golda (Now) Jeffries in Celina.

She married the love of her life, Carl E. Fleck, on Oct. 29, 1960, and celebrated 52 years of marriage last year.

Also surviving are her two daughters, Deb and Cathi Fleck of Celina and Diana Fleck of St. Marys; her sister, Margery Rush of St. Marys.

Wapakoneta's Crawford shuts out St. Marys

ST. MARYS — Johnny Crawford’s bottom of the first could’ve turned disastrous. The first three St. Marys batters reached base off Wapakoneta’s left-handed ace and Roughrider clean-up hitter Mason Gross hit a screamer to the left side of the infield that had multiple runs batted in written all over it.

The ball instead landed in the glove of Wapak third baseman Marshall Gerlach, who snagged the hissing liner and doubled up the runner at third base by stepping on the bag to defuse the potentially explosive half inning.

Roughrider Takes The Leap

ST. MARYS — Memorial High School Senior Kelly Heitkamp has a long list of accomplishments that will follow her upon graduation.

Heitkamp has been on the soccer and basketball teams, is a member of National Honor Society, Girl Talk and DECA. She works hard and is dedicated to each of these activities. She recently returned from Ahaheim, Calif., where she competed in an international competition for DECA.

But when asked what defines her - where her heart and soul and passion come into play — track was an easy answer.
