ST. MARYS — St. Marys students will take $124,000 with them to college after Monday night’s Academic Banquet, showcasing local generosity and the desire for community members to be remembered through bequests that continue to support Memorial’s talent.
Principal Dave Lewis called the large awards “a tribute to the kind of students we have in St. Marys.”
Mike Makley, while distributing the WSLC and WOEF scholarships, pointed out how college costs have changed.
ELIDA — St. Marys outfielder Tristan Becker dove headfirst in shallow center to snag a quick-sinking liner to end the bottom of the fourth inning, stranding a pair of baserunners and denying Kenton its first and game-tying run.
St. Marys starting pitcher Codie Deaton didn’t need much help in Saturday’s tournament opener, but he found it in plays on defense like Becker's and in the bats of his Roughrider teammates.
ST. MARYS — There’s a reason the event is called a relay and not a race — with the American Cancer Society celebrating 100 years since it started fighting cancer, those who began the organization have long since passed the baton to a new generation.
Many of the early participants in Relay for Life have gone from the survivors list to the list of those the event is “in memory of,” but the idea of a Relay is that eventually a team member will end the Relay against cancer by crossing the finish line with a cure.

She opens her home to her children’s friends and that generosity, her daughter Abbey Craft said, is part of why she nominated her mother.
“She never thought it was good enough,” Abbey said. “She went above and beyond. Cookies on my birthday. She never forgets things like that.”
