ST. MARYS — Senior Garrett Hower, 17, likes to be different.
When his friends challenged him into getting a mohawk, he did it without hesitation. When he decided to join a winter sport, he chose wrestling. Surprisingly, even to him, wrestling became his life in eighth-grade.
Hower said he enjoys the fact that although he is a part of a team, people will remember his wins even if the team does not do well collectively.
Michael O. Miller, 65, of 1522 Neil Ave., St. Marys, died on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born on Sept. 9, 1947, in Celina, the son of J. Edward and Patricia Ann (Otto) Miller.
He married Paulette Christopher on Oct. 21, 1972, and she survives at the residence.
CELINA — A Maria Stein woman died as the result injuries she suffered in a collision on Ohio 29.
Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said the sheriff's office received received several 911 calls at 5:39 p.m. Thursday reporting a collision at the intersection of Ohio 29 and 118.
The investigation revealed that Michelle R Bruns, 36, of 2243 State Route 716, Maria Stein, was driving a 2010 Lexus southbound on Ohio 118. Thomas L. Sims Jr., 36, of Indianapolis, Ind., was driving a 2005 Freightliner semi-tractor and trailer westbound on Ohio 29.
CELINA — Family members of Melinda Shinn recounted all the birthdays, holidays and other life milestones that were taken away from them at the hands of Daniel Charles Martin.
Martin appeared in Mercer County Common Pleas Court Thursday morning for a sentencing hearing and was handed a sentence of 15 years to life in prison for murdering Shinn on Nov. 8. Mercer County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Ingraham also added a three-year sentence for a gun specification, meaning Martin must serve at least 18 years before he is eligible for parole.

CELINA — Ferguson Enterprises is scheduled to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its first Ohio distribution center Thursday afternoon.
The new 350,000-square-foot distribution center outside Celina will result in a $15 million investment and is anticipated to create 70 jobs.
ST. MARYS — The unemployment rate across the region edged up slightly in May.
According to data released on Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Auglaize County registered an unemployment rate of 5.1 percent, up from the 4.9 percent it registered in April. A year ago, the county had an unemployment rate of 5.4 percent. Mercer County, which has the lowest unemployment rate in the state, also saw an increase in May from 4.1 percent to 4.3 percent.
ST. MARYS — The St. Marys ACME baseball team added another doubleheader sweep to its late regular-season surge.
St. Marys emerged from a wild eight-inning slugfest with an 11-10 win in the opener and then made quick work of Delphos Jefferson with a 4-0 win in the five-inning nightcap.
The sweep lifts the St. Marys ACME team to 9-6 on the season as they now have three days off before the beginning of the ACME sectional tournament at Minster next week.
Adrian Clay Beagle, 65, of St. Marys, died at 4:06 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2013, at his residence.
He was born on Feb. 13, 1948, in Mt. Olivet, Ky. to William and Gertrude (Derossett) Beagle.
On July 14, 1980, in Jellico, Tenn., he married Judy Orick, who died on Oct. 11, 2011.
