VAN WERT — The St. Marys wrestling team swept a pair of matches at a Western Buckeye League super tri at Van Wert High School on Tuesday night. The Roughriders opened the night with a 59-21 over Ottawa-Glandorf and then handled Van Wert 48-28.
“The team made a lot of good choices from top to bottom,” St. Marys assistant coach Tim Heisey said. “They seemed to move constantly. That’s the key. We’ve just got to keep moving, moving, moving.”

UNION CITY — The Minster girls basketball team emptied the bench and spread 75 points between 13 different players in a 75-34 win over Mississinawa Valley on Monday night.
The Wildcats improved to 4-0. They will travel to St. Henry on Thursday for another Midwest Athletic Conference game.
Kayla Richard led Minster with 16 points, the lone Wildcat in double figures. Claire Fischer hit three 3-pointers for nine points, along with nine points from Logan Arnold and eight points from Lauren Roetgerman.
ST. MARYS — The St. Marys City Council met briefly Monday night. One topic of discussion was the Energy Efficiency Smart Schedule with American Municipal Power, Inc.
“They have yearly contests for people who turn in the oldest appliances,” Service and Safety Director Greg Foxhoven said. “They do have strong residential programs. Obviously, their focus is industrial (and) commercial (but) there are a lot of benefits for our homeowners.”
Foxhoven also updated councilors on the demolition of several local houses.
Ruth E. "Honey" (White) Horney (nee White), 81, formerly Sister John Louise, S.C. (1953-1968), died on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013.
Frances L. “Fran” Reese, 78, died at noon Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.
She was born on July 18, 1935, in Shelby County, to the late Ewald and Esther (Quellhorst) Kuck.
On Sept. 1, 1956, she married Richard Reese, who preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 2013.
Irene Agnes Frey, 86, formerly of 712 S. Main St. in St. Marys, died at 4:12 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on July 14, 1927, in Botkins, to Henry and Elizabeth (Knapke) Braun.
On Oct. 22, 1949, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, she married Charles H. Frey, who survives at Wapakoneta Manor.
MASSILLON — Marion Local's 33-0 win over Trimble in the Division VII state title game on Saturday made the Flyers the seventh school in Ohio High School Athletic Association history to win three or more consecutive titles, joining Cincinnati Moeller, Cleveland St. Ignatius, Delphos St. John’s, Newark Catholic, Versailles and Youngstown Ursuline
“It means a lot to us and our community,” Marion Local quarterback Adam Bertke said. “Just to be out there with those top schools, it’s an awesome honor.”
CELINA — The successful implementation of a treatment train, record dredging and a continued focus on cleaning up Grand Lake St. Marys were some of the highlights that were touched upon during Saturday’s Lake Improvement Association meeting.
Grand Lake St. Marys Restoration Commission Manager Milt Miller gave LIA members a rundown of some of the group’s accomplishments during the past 12 months. At the top of the list was the Prairie Creek treatment train.
Patricia Ann Voisard, 83, of 740 N. Augustus St., St. Marys, died on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at St. Ritas Medical Center, Lima, following an extended illness.
She was born on July 12, 1930, in St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Hahn) Cianciolo.
She married Edward J. Voisard on May 3, 1952, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in St. Joseph, Mo., and he survives at the residence.
