VERAILLES — The Minster boys golf team ran away from the rest of the field and captured the Midwest Athletic Conference boys golf title at Stillwater on Saturday.
Minster shot a 313, led by tournament medalist John Burke’s 76, to win the MAC tourney title by 20 strokes. Parkway finished second with a 333 score. Versailles, which entered the tournament along with Minster unbeaten in league play, finished third with a 341 score.
ST. MARYS — Bald eagles are thriving along Grand Lake St. Marys — all under the watch of a St. Marys woman who has been monitoring the birds for years.
Jill Bowers has been monitoring the bald eagle population in Auglaize and Mercer counties for the state for 17 years. Bowers has been with the bald eagles since the first birds arrived in the area.
“They came to the wildlife area by the goose farm by 703 and 127,” Bowers said. “Now we have three nests on Grand Lake St. Marys, including one in Auglaize County.”
Jerome "Jerry" D. Moeller, 87, of State Route 66, Fort Loramie, passed away of natural causes at his residence late Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2013.
He was born on July 21, 1926, in St. Wendelin, to Daniel and Henrietta (Stammen) Moeller.
On June 25, 1947, at St. Bernard Church in Burkettsville, Jerry married Armella "Mick" (Rindler) Moeller, who survives.
Tenson Haze Asher, 2 months old, died on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Friday, July 12, 2013, in Columbus, a son of Erika Danielle (Schmiesing-Jones) Asher and Logan Allen Way Grieves, both of whom survive in Hicksville.
Chad A. Shindeldecker, 50, died at his residence in Ormond Beach, Fla., on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013.
He was born on Feb. 28, 1963, in Celina, to Frank Jr. and Patricia A. (Marsee) Shindeldecker.
Surviving are his father, Frank Shindeldecker Jr. of Ohio City; his mother, Patricia A. (Bob) Froning of St. Marys; and his sister.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Services for Chad were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Pastor Chip Steffy officiating.
Michael L. “Doat” Bernard, 65, of 686 Coventry Green in St. Marys, passed away peacefully, surround by his family at 5:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer.
He was born on April 18, 1948, in St. Marys , to Charles and Mary Ann (Wehrkamp) Bernard.
He is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Shirley A. Poeppelman, whom he married on Dec. 26, 1970, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina.
Marcile J. Henkener, 91, of New Knoxville, passed away on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Friendship Village of Dublin. She had resided in Dublin for the last 12 years.
Born on May 19, 1922, on a farm near Bluffton, she was the daughter of the late Ezra Amstutz and Etta (Davidson) Amstutz.
Marcile graduated from Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 and worked as a registered nurse. Her professional career included caring for wounded servicemen in Petoskey, Mich. during World War II.
Dolores C. “Dee” Fledderjohn, 78, of New Bremen, died at 4:20 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at the Elmwood Assisted Living Center of New Bremen.
She was born on June 6, 1935, in New Bremen, the daughter of Raymond and Marie (Topp) Mohrman.
Marjorie L. Wellman, 89, of New Knoxville, and a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, died at 3:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Otterbein St. Marys.
She was born on Sept. 12, 1924, in New Knoxville, the daughter of Raymond and Lenora (Doenges) Henkener.
She married Howard “Jack” Wellman on June 1, 1946, and he preceded her in death.
ST. MARYS — Elida used a huge game on the ground from quarterback Logan Alexander to stop a two-game losing streak in a 34-14 win over St. Marys at Skip Baughman Stadium on a deluged Friday night.
Now the Bulldogs will have to find a way to win without their sophomore signal caller next week.
