75 years ago: St. Marys City Councilors approved a resolution asking the county commissioners to sponsor a blanket WPA project for the construction of sidewalks and curbing in the city. The project was sought to clear up four years of red tape.

Melvin E. Luthman, 78

April 1, 2013

Melvin E. Luthman, 78, of Botkins, died at 10:05 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family. 

He was born on Dec. 30, 1934, in Sidney, to the late Bernard and Amelia (Raterman) Luthman. 

He married Agnes Esser on Oct. 10, 1959, in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, McCartyville. She survives in Botkins. 

Marcedis Miller, 82

Marcedis Miller, 82, formerly of Celina, died at 8:20 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Auglaize Acres Nursing Home in Wapakoneta.

She was born on Oct. 8, 1930, in Auglaize County to Russell and Mabel (Parke) Young.

Survivors include three sons, Donald Dale (June) Bricker  of Wapakoneta, Russell Bricker  of Las Vegas, Nev. and Greg (Shirley) Bricker  of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a daughter, Rebecca (Rex) Miller  of Rockford; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother.

William F. Gilberg, 71

William F. Gilberg, 71, of New Bremen, died at 2:31 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the Elmwood of New Bremen, where he had been a resident for the past three months.  

He was born on Jan. 29, 1942, in New Bremen.  

He was the son of Paul and Pauline (Vornholt) Gilberg, who preceded him in death.  

Albert Heckler, 91

April 1, 2013

Albert Heckler, 91, of Celina, died at 6:04 p.m. on Good Friday of this Easter holiday, March 29, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys, of natural causes.

He was born on Dec. 14, 1921, in Celina, to parents Peter J. Heckler and Rose H. Wiseman Heckler, who preceded him in death.

On Aug. 24, 1946, he married Anna Rita Mestemaker, who survives in Celina.

Marcedis Miller, 82, of Wapakoneta, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Auglaize Acres Nursing Home in Wapakoneta.

Arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Homes in St. Marys.

Family Looks to Secure Van for Son

ST. MARYS — A family with ties to St. Marys needs community support to win a handicap van that would make life safer for their son, who has already overcome numerous challenges after a life-threatening encounter with bacterial meningitis.

When Chad and Melissa Weaver’s 2-month-old son Owen had a fever, they thought it was the fever sometimes associated with vaccination.

MINSTER — With the economy down the last few years, some people might say psychologist Laura Monnier-Roetgerman was crazy to move back from Chicago to risk jump-starting her own business.

But the economy, joblessness and stress in general are exactly why the services of a Center for Personal Wellness, now open on Fourth Street in Minster, are needed, she said.

Urban A. Grevenkamp “The Watkins Man,” 89, of Celina, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

He was born on June 8, 1923, in Cassella, to the late Henry and Mary (Olding) Grevenkamp.
