Taylor E. Dicke, 11

Taylor E. Dicke, 11, of New Bremen, died at 9:12 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at her residence.  

She was born on Aug. 25, 2002, in St. Marys.  

She was the daughter of Joseph Dicke and Nicole (Mohler) Dicke, both of New Bremen.  

Update: 2 Die From Injuries In Collision

NEW BREMEN — Two people have died as a result of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle collision near New Bremen Thursday night.

According to a report from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at approximately 5:01 p.m. Thursday, a 2006 Honda Ridgeline that was operated by Joan Shoffner, 83, of Sidney, was traveling south on Ohio 364. Shoffner failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and traveled into the path of an eastbound vehicle and was struck in the passenger side.

Nelson's Golden Goal lifts Roughriders over Bryan, 1-0

ELIDA — After 80 fruitless minutes, the St. Marys boys soccer team wasted little time in overtime to keep its postseason run going.

Zac Nelson booted the Roughriders into the district title game with a golden goal a little more than a minute into extra time on Wednesday night, and the Roughriders  defeated the Bryan Golden Bears 1-0 in a Division II district semifinal.

Wapak Man Indicted On Sex Charges

WAPAKONETA — A Wapakoneta man was indicted on sex offenses stemming from an investigation by the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office.

On July 16, the sheriff’s office received a complaint concerning a person allegedly taking a video of a small child in a state of nudity.  Based upon the information provided a search warrant was executed at the suspects residence located at 13690 Brown Road in rural Wapakoneta.

Joyce A. Steele, 77

October 23, 2013

Joyce A. Steele, 77, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:31 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.  

She was born on July 7, 1936, in Fondy, Ky., the daughter of John and Dallas (Reed) Mobley, who preceded her in death.  

On July 3, 1954, she married Vernon L. Steele, and he survives.

Aloys S. “Junior” Sommer Jr., 80

Aloys S. “Junior” Sommer Jr., 80, of New Bremen, died at 6:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen. He was born on Sept. 15, 1933, in Fort Loramie, to the late Aloys and Marie (Bergman) Sommer.  

On Nov. 10, 1956, he married Marilyn Swallow, who survives in New Bremen.

Teachers To Serve Up Burgers

ST. MARYS — The teachers of the St. Marys City Schools through SMEA (St. Marys Education Association) will be working from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the McDonald's on Indiana Avenue in St. Marys. A portion of the profit will be donated by McDonalds to SMEA to help fund the two 1,000 college scholarships the organization gives to graduating Memorial students.

Brief Outages Expected During Work

ST. MARYS —  On Tuesday evening, the city of St. Marys Electric Department will be conducting tests on equipment at the Tomlinson Substation and making necessary upgrades. As a result, the St. Marys Square will have an outage lasting 15 to 20 minutes and residents on North Street, near the funeral home, will be out of power for about an hour. Such outages are expected to occur after 10 p.m. Testing will start around 8 p.m. and last eight to nine hours. No other outages are expected, although brief outages could occur.  

Harold “Pete” Quickle, 89

Harold “Pete” Quickle, 89, of 417 N. Pine St., St. Marys, died at 7:22 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Lima Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Aug.1, 1924, in Hillsboro, the son of Dana and Florence (Frazier) Quickle.

He married Lillian Storer on Aug. 9, 1947, and she survives at the residence.

He is also survived by his four daughters, Diana Hirschfeld of St. Marys, Kathy (Doug) Duncan of St. Marys, Barbara Eshleman of St. Marys and Rebecca (Greg) Adams of St. Marys.
