Clarence B. Tuente, 84

Clarence B. Tuente, 84, of 7834 Overman Road in Maria Stein, died on Jan. 4, 2013, at his home.  

He was born on March 30, 1928, in Maria Stein to the late Henry and Agatha (Riethman) Tuente.

He married Dorothy K. Kuess on Sept. 2, 1950, in St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, and she preceded him in death on May 20, 1995.

Boys Hoops: Elida dashes St. Marys' hopes of upset in 2nd half

ST. MARYS — Elida’s Dakota Mathias — as good as he is — needed some help from his friends as the Bulldogs missed wide open 3-pointer after 3-pointer in the second quarter and found themselves trailing an underdog St. Marys at the half.

The Elida standout got the needed aide in the second half as the Bulldogs pulled away from the upset-minded Roughriders 63-44  at The Horseshoe on Friday night.

Boys Hoops: New Bremen wins MAC showdown at Fort Recovery in OT

FORT RECOVERY — The New Bremen Cardinals scored the game’s first 10 points  against Fort Recovery — all 10 of them coming from Carson Manger.

The Cardinals needed every one of those as they had to fend off a big comeback and then outlast the Indians in overtime, 65-61, in a key Midwest Athletic Conference game on Friday night.

ST. HENRY 50, NEW KNOXVILLE 46

NEW KNOXVILLE — Kyle Stahl scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead St. Henry to its first victory at The Barn in eight years with a 50-46 win on Friday night in Midwest Athletic Conference play.

The Redskins won at New Knoxville for the first time since 2005, overcoming New Knoxville senior Jake Allen’s 24-point, seven rebound game. Allen went 3-of-6 from 3-point range.

Rider Excels in Arts, Languages

ST. MARYS — For Memorial High School senior Rider Hannah Langsdon, life is art.

The school’s art club is Langsdon’s haven, and she said she takes her responsibility as a leader in it very seriously.

“The seniors are kind of like the presidents of the club,” Langsdon said. “So all the seniors are in charge, and they help out with the younger kids. We make sure that there’s no bad behavior in our club — we’re there to be ourselves, not make everybody else feel bad.”

Angelo L. Busacca, 68

Angelo L. Busacca, 68, of Mendon died on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.

He was born May 27, 1944, in Jersey City, N.J., to the late Basil and Salome Gebhard Busacca.

He married Sara A. Jones on Jan. 22, 1984, and she survived along with daughter Alexandria Linda Busacca and son Dominic Santino Busacca, both of Mendon, as well as one sister.

Also surviving are mother-in-law Mary Jane Hahn of Mendon and eight brother- and sister-in-laws.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam era.

Naomi Jean Timmerman, 81

Naomi Jean Timmerman, 81, of Coldwater died at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater. She was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Rushville, Ind., to the late India and Stella (Gross) Stevens.

She married Ralph Timmerman Dec. 12, 1970, and he preceded her in death Sept. 3, 2006.

She is survived by her children Karen and Scott Strete, of Celina; Thomas and Debbie Feigel, of New Braunfels, Texas; Marcy and James Crouch, of Union City, Ind.; Debora and Butch Martin, of Celina; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

James J. Otis, 99

January 4, 2013

Dr. James J. Otis, 99, of Celina died of natural causes at 2:47 p.m. Thursday Jan. 3, 2013, in Joint Township Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.

He was born on Oct. 22, 1913, in Ann Arbor, Mich., the son of Lloyd and Barbara (Audritsh) Otis, who preceded him in death.

He was married to Betty Hamel on Oct. 9, 1944, and she preceded him in death June 25, 2010.

ST. MARYS — Wapakoneta convincingly beat what Redskin head wrestling coach Jason Rostorfer called the best Western Buckeye League foe his team has faced this season, 49-27, on senior night at Memorial High School on Thursday night.
