MSg Luke L. Heitkamp, USAF ret, 66

MSg Luke L. Heitkamp, USAF ret, 66, of Panama City, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Bay Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was  the second of 11 children, born on Feb. 22, 1946,  to Leonard and Edna (Elking) Heitkamp of Maria Stein.  On Aug. 2, 1985, he married Frances Calhoun , who survives in Panama City, Fla.

No Bond For Martin

CELINA — The suspect who Mercer County prosecutors allege shot and killed a Rockford woman in November made his first court appearance on Monday.

Flanked by his attorneys, Daniel Charles Martin, 40, was ordered held without bond on one count of murder in connection with the death of Melinda Shinn, 26. Martin, who stared down at the defense table for much of the hearing, is scheduled to appear for an arraignment hearing at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 25, where he is expected to enter a plea to the lone count contained within the indictment.

New Knoxville boys hoops downs Botkins, 49-42

BOTKINS — At the end of the third quarter it looked like the New Knoxville Rangers basketball team was going to cruise to an easy victory against the Botkins Trojans, but it turned out to be anything but an easy game as the Rangers had to hold on and hit free throws down the stretch for a 49-42 victory at Botkins.

Boys Hoops: New Bremen moves to 8-2 with defensive-minded win over Riders

ST. MARYS — The New Bremen Cardinals have reached the halfway point of the season a team to be reckoned with.

The Cardinals shook off a  slow start to win their fourth straight game and move to 8-2 on the season with a 50-40 win at St. Marys to wrap up a double weekend of road wins.

Janice E. Schroer, 74

January 7, 2013

Janice E. Schroer, 74, of New Bremen, died at 2:55 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Elmwood of New Bremen.

She was born on March 29, 1938, in New Bremen.

She was the daughter of Leo and Luella (Blumhorst) Topp, who preceded her in death.

On Sept. 7, 1957, she married Lloyd W. Schroer, who survives east of New Bremen.

Nancy J. Niemeyer, 76

Nancy J. Niemeyer, 76, of New Knoxville, died at 10:35 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.

She was born on Jan. 25, 1936, in Lima, the only child of Adiel “Art” and Lenora (Sunderman) Wierwille.

She married James Niemeyer on June 19, 1954, and he survives at the residence.

Edith V. “Edie” Jeanneret, 90

Edith V. “Edie” Jeanneret, 90, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:14 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, in the Lima Memorial Hospital emergency room.

She was born on Dec. 11, 1922, in Elida, to Cecil and Mathilda Miller Keeling.

She married Rene Jeanneret Sr. on March 11, 1943, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1977.

Mrs. Jeanneret had been a homemaker and a bus driver for the Wapakoneta School District. She attended Rousculp Church of Christ and was a member of the Wapakoneta Eagles. She was an avid bowler, mainly at Astro Lanes.
