Lester Dicke, 95, of St. Marys, died on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at St. Marys Living Center.
Arrangements are being completed with the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home (314 W. High Street Chapel) in St. Marys.
Dorothy Lynn Dorsett, 54, of Wapakoneta, died at 1:49 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at her residence.
She was born on Oct. 23, 1958, in Lima, the daughter of Robert E. and Betty L. (Vondenhuevel) Hague, who survive in Wapakoneta.
Other survivors include a sister, Carol (Rich) Dorsett, Wapakoneta; a former husband, Harold Dorsett II; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Hague and a brother, Donald Hague.
Gale R. Compton, 86, of Van Wert, died at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1926, in Haviland, to parents Roscoe Compton and Ethel Irene (Reid), both of whom preceded him in death.
He married Vernabel Louise (Murphy) on Feb. 4, 2008, and she survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Sherer of Van Wert; two sons, Randall (Patrice) Compton of St. Marys and Ronald (Eve) Compton of St. Marys; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Marjorie L. Borden, 94, of 532 Southway Drive in St. Marys, died at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born on June 24, 1918, in Piqua, to Kenneth and Edith (Cliff) Magill. She was raised by her paternal grandparents Fred and Ella (Smith) Magill.
On June 1, 1946, she married Robert R. Borden, who died on Aug. 29, 1990.
ST. MARYS — After the failure of Tuesday’s attempt to pass a levy that would bring the St. Marys City School District much needed funding, board members convened to discuss the effects of the cuts that will now be instituted as a result during Wednesday night’s regular meeting.
The audience was filled with more students than normally attend board meetings, and a lot of them addressed the board.
St. Marys Memorial High School recently had 16 juniors and seniors named to the 2012-2013 Western Buckeye League’s All-Academic list.
Juniors must maintain a 3.75 grade point average through five semesters and earn at least two varsity letters in WBL-recognized sports. Seniors must maintain a 3.75 GPA through seven semesters and earn at least three varsity letters in WBL recognized sports.
St. Marys seniors honored were Cole Brooks, Emily Brown, Katlyn Brown, Kevin Dammeyer, Nick Durkee, Kelly Heitkamp, Colleen Magee, Neil Perry and Logan Simons.

NEW KNOXVILLE — The Minster Wildcats scored 12 runs in the final three innings of their 14-0 five-inning win over the New Knoxville Rangers on Tuesday.

Now the Wildcats are a win on Friday away from clinching at least a share of the Midwest Athletic Conference title.
ST. MARYS — The Republican primary race for St. Marys Council-at-Large proved to be close as five candidates sought three spots in the November General Election.
According to unofficial results, incumbent Bob Fitzgerald led all vote getters with 731 votes, followed by Todd Fleagle with 619 votes, Dan Uhlenhake with 586 votes, Russ Bailey with 580 votes and Jim Harris with 427 votes. The top three will move on to the November General Election, where they will be unopposed as no Democrats filed to take part in the primary.
ST. MARYS — The much-anticipated and heavily-discussed levy proposed by the St. Marys City School district failed at the polls Tuesday.
According to unofficial results, the operating levy, a 1 percent income tax coupled with a 5-mill property tax, failed by a vote of 2,316 to 1,522. This means that all budget cuts passed by the Board of Education that were contingent upon the levy’s failure will go into effect this fall.
St. Marys Superintendent Shawn Brown did not hide his disappointment as he discussed the future of the district.
