Madeline C. Maurer, 72, of 79 S. Main St., Fort Loramie, died at 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at her home after a long battle with cancer.
She was born on July 18, 1940, in Fort Loramie to the late John and Victoria (Borchers) Albers. She married James R. Maurer on Oct. 28, 1961 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Fort Loramie. He survives in Fort Loramie.
Billy Joe “Bill” Stephenson Jr., 58, of rural Spencerville, died at 8:28 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, from complications from a fall on ice at his work in Delphos on Jan. 28.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1954, in St. Marys, a son of Billy Joe and Ruth Evelyn Glasco Stephenson Sr., who survive in Spencerville.
Sylvia M. Lengerich, 76, of Fryburg, died at 9:47 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Auglaize Acres.
She was born on June 24, 1936, in Leicestershire, England, the daughter of James and Marie (Rose) Reed, who preceded her in death.
On Jan. 31, 1959, at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Leicester, England, she married John G. Lengerich, and he died on June 26, 2001.
John Douglas “Doug” Brookhart, 71, of St. Marys, died of a sudden illness at 2:50 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys, with his loving family at his side.
He was born on Feb. 26, 1941, in Parkersburg, W.Va., the son of Earl and Eloise (Waterman) Brookhart.
He married Mary Alyce Smith on Jan. 20, 1962, and she survives at the residence.
ST. MARYS — Garet Fledderjohann wasn’t content to just score his 1,000th point in his next-to-last home game at Memorial High School. The St. Marys senior guard put on a fourth-quarter display that had an entire gymnasium gawking during the Riders’ 60-52 loss to Van Wert on Friday night.
DELPHOS — With a four-point lead with just 16 seconds left in regulation the New Bremen boys basketball team had at least a share of the Midwest Athletic Conference title in its grasp. Delphos St. John’s Curtis Geise’s heroics and later a technical foul at an inopportune time let it slip away.
BOWLING GREEN — St. Marys junior Jared Deubler had a pair of top eight finishes — including a second-place finish — as an individual to highlight the St. Marys swim team’s day in the pool at the Division II district meet at Bowling Green State University on Friday.
Deubler took second in the boys 100 backstroke. Deubler finished in 54.63 seconds. Deubler also finished eighth in the boys 100 freestyle with a 49.47-second time.
Calvin H. Katterhenry, 96, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:25 a.m., Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born Jan. 21, 1917, in New Knoxville near Carter Creek, the son of Jacob W. and Elizabeth (Hinze) Katterheinrich, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include, three great-nephews, five great-nieces, five great-great-nephews and seven great-great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, five nephews, and three nieces.
Edward J. “John” Hut, 65, of Wapakoneta and Fort Myers, Fla. died at 1:20 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at St. Rita’s Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 17, 1947 in Wapakoneta to Phillip and Pearl (Hale) Hut who preceded him in death.
On Aug. 30, 1973 he married Andrea Ryan and she survives in Wapakoneta.
Survivors also include a son, Guy (Holly) Hut; a daughter, Danielle (Ralph) Oen, both of Wapakoneta; three grandchildren; three sisters and a brother.
Paul L. Schumacher, 74, of 07947 Southland Road, New Knoxville died 1:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at the Golden Living Center.
He was born on Sept. 22, 1938, in New Weston the son of Oscar and Gertrude (Guggenbiller) Schumacher.
He married Janice Schrolucke on Oct. 20, 1962 and she survives at the residence.
