James L. Henschen, DVM, 74, of Westerville, died on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, after a brief illness.
He was born on May 31, 1939, in St. Marys.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean; daughters Jodi (Jerry) Beekman of Westerville and Jill (Michael) Tarbox of Marysville; grandchildren Jeff and Joe Beekman and Lindsay and James Tarbox; brother Danny (Mary) Henschen of Dayton; mother-in-law Lenora Gritzmaker of St. Marys.
Alvin B. Schulze, 91, of 215 Northway Drive, St. Marys, died at 6 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013.
He was born on March 19, 1922, in Yorkshire, to John and Agatha (Streacker) Schulze. He married Dolores Otting on Nov. 26, 1949, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 1997.
Richard Paul Watercutter, 69, of 112 Garman Ave., Celina, passed away at 11:35 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at home with his family.
He was born on Jan. 1, 1944, in Bradford, to the late Clarence “Casey” and Ellen (Snapp) Watercutter.
On June 6, 1964, he married Marilyn A. Weyandt, who lives in Celina.
NEW BREMEN — New Bremen Pumpkinfest returns Sept. 27-28 with music, arts and food this year, but it will go forward without the weighing of the large orange gourds — transitioning instead to a fall festival atmosphere that’s more about catching up with one another as a community.
“Instead of doing that, we are focusing on creating a fall festival,” said Lauren Bertke, who is organizing this year’s event.
She added there are a lot that of new events this year.
If the St. Marys defense can keep Elida from getting past the first level of its defense, head coach Greg Phillips feels good about his team’s chances this week at home against quarerback Logan Alexander and Elida’s balanced spread offense.

LIMA — The St. Marys volleyball team has completely turned around its season . Thursday night’s road win was just more proof of that transformation. The Roughriders rolled to 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 win at Bath to win for the fifth time in their last six matches and improve to 3-1 in the Western Buckeye League.
After losing their first five matches of the season, St. Marys (5-8, 3-1 WBL) has now won three straight in WBL play.
Marjorie Wellman, 88, of New Knoxville, OH died early Friday September 20, 2013 at Otterbein -- St. Marys. Arrangements are being completed with the Vornholt - Miller Funeral Home in New Knoxville.

Mary Alice Reid, 79, of Celina, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at Celina Manor Nursing Home. She had resided in West Palm Beach, Fla. for the last 40 years.
Born on Dec. 16, 1933, in Celina, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Eva A. (Hill) Hole.
Mary Alice and Kenneth N. Reid were married on Nov. 8, 1970, and he survives, along with two daughters, Brinda Simmons of Piqua and Kim (Randy) Wendel of Celina; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
Ralph D. Rabe, 93, formerly of 403 W. North St. in St. Marys, died at 2:13 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, in the emergency department of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1920, in Mercer County to Vintson and Esther (Shroyer) Rabe.
On April 20, 1947, in St. Marys, he married Margaret Jones, who died on Jan. 10, 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty (Stephen) McCoy of St. Marys; two sisters, Mary Montague of Dayton and Jeanie (Pleasant) “Verlie” Boroff of St. Marys.
