ST. MARYS 4, BOTKINS 0
BOTKINS — The St. Marys boys soccer team peppered the net with shots on goal that just missed their mark before the floodgates finally opened in the latter part of the second half against the Botkins Trojans.
St. Marys scored two goals in each half and beat Botkins 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in the shadow of the rushing traffic of I-75 in Botkins.
Jeb T. Johnson, 24, of rural Spencerville, died at 12:01 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center Emergency Department in Lima.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1988, in Columbus, the son of James M. and Linda S. Johnson of Spencerville, who survive.
Also surviving are his sister, Lacy (Dustin) Gallaspie of Spencerville; his maternal grandparents; several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.
Betty M. Bowsher, 89, of rural Spencerville, died at 3:09 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, following a short illness.
She was born on Nov. 25, 1923, in Amanda Township, Allen County, a daughter of Clarence H. and Blanche M. Coon Boyer, who preceded her in death.
On June 23, 1944, she married Kenneth E. Bowsher, who died on Feb. 21, 1984.
Ruth M. Beck, 79, of 215 Dogwood Drive in Celina, passed away at 5:25 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at The Gardens at Celina.
She was born on July 20, 1934 in Coldwater, to the late Joseph and Helen (Heyne) Wolters.
On Sept. 5, 1964, she married Paul Edward Beck, who preceded her in death in 1988.
Mahan J. “Jerry” Harris, 81, of 421 E. Fulton St., and formerly of Weirton, W. Va., passed away at 9:10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at The Gardens at Celina.
Jerry was born on Nov. 26, 1931, in Wierton, W. Va., to the late Manch and Ruby (Sheppard) Harris.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Waugh) Harris of Celina; son, Michael and Teresa Harris of Celina; daughter, Jerri VanTrees of St. Marys; nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law.
Linus U. “Brownie” Braun, 77, and his wife, Virginia D. “Ginny’ Braun, 72, of Fort Recovery, passed away on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, from injuries suffered from an auto accident in Auglaize County.
He was born on June 5, 1936, in St. Peter, to the late Stephen and Rosella (Minnich) Braun. She was born on Sept. 28, 1940, in St. Marys, to the late Edward and Mary (Baker) Winhover.
They were married on May 13, 1961, in St. Marys.
ST. MARYS — Two Fort Recovery residents died as a result of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon in Auglaize County.
According to a report from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at 1:01 p.m., Linus U. Braun 77, of Fort Recovery, was driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan southeast on Ohio 29, near Washington Pike, when he went left-of-center and struck a northwest bound 2011 Honda Pilot driven by Judy Zink, 58, of St. Marys. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage in the head-on collision.

ST. MARYS — The St. Marys football team is a couple of plays away from a 2-0 start to the season. Instead, they’re a painful, gut-wrenching 0-2.
The Roughriders struggled to move the chains for much of the game and after finally finding some instant offense with a 60-yard touchdown run came up an extra-point shy against the Shawnee Indians in a 14-13 loss at Skip Baughman Stadium on Friday night.
St. Marys has lost its first two games of the season by a combined four points after suffering a 19-16 loss to Sidney a week ago.
