ST. MARYS — An annual fundraiser to help combat cancer swings into full gear today.
The St. Marys Tailgate for Cancer kicked off Friday night with a preview show in the St. Marys Eagles parking lot. Today’s festivities start with a 5K at 9 a.m., and will feature entertainment throughout the course, said Traci Lauth, co-owner of TLC and St. Marys Tailgate for Cancer committee member.
No one would ever call Kenton’s offense an afterthought, but while the Wildcats’ five-wide no-hold’s barred passing attack is still one of the country’s most prolific it’s the defense that has perhaps been most impressive through two weeks of the 2013 season.
Kenton’s defense held defending Division V state champion Coldwater to two points in the season opener. A week later, they shut out Wapakoneta for three quarters before giving up two fourth-quarter touchdowns when the game was already decided in a 52-16 rout.

LIMA — The St. Marys girls soccer team went on the road twice for key Western Buckeye League matches in the Lima area and twice used the same formula to emerge with wins: get up early and then hold on.
The Roughriders jumped out to a two-goal halftime lead on Bath in the first-half torrential rain and held on as the Wildkittens a late goal and peppered the goal with shots in the final two minutes. St. Marys’ 2-1 win is its fourth straight win.
