Michael Glen Schneitman, 63, of 7696 State Route 219, Celina, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013, at V.A. Medical Center in Dayton.
He was born on Dec. 22, 1949, in Jacksonville, Fla.
On March 4, 2013, he married Karen Bobenmoyer, who lives in Celina. Also surviving is his daughter, Christy Hammer of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepsons and daughters-in-law Eric and Lisa Wheat of Celina, Erin and Branda Wheat of Brookville; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by one brother; one stepbrother.
MINSTER — After losing their opening game in the double-elimination Auglaize County ACME sectional tournament on Monday, the St. Marys ACME baseball team ran the table.
St. Marys slugged its way to the Auglaize County ACME sectional title by sweeping the Minster Wildcats in a pair of games on Friday night. The 10-1 and 15-4 wins for the Roughriders in the two championship round games finish off four straight wins over the past three days.
Former Coldwater resident Zeno E. ‘Sam’ Schoenlein, 93, died on Friday, July 5, 2013, at Otterbein Living Center in St. Marys, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born on March 3, 1920, in St. Peter, to the late Peter and Veronica (Braun) Schoenlein.
On July 31, 1948, he married Dorothy (Fortman) in St. Anthony, and she died on Oct. 14, 2004.
MINSTER — Connie Seger, of Fort Loramie, will open a laser engraving business on Main Street in Minster this month, a retirement business she hopes will keep her busy, and, if nothing else, support itself in the next few years.
Seger took up engraving after she learned woodworking seven years ago from her husband and father-in-law, who spent most of their free time in the activity.
“I thought, If I want to spend time with my husband, I have to do this,” she said, adding that she spent a lot of time cutting deers with a band saw.
MINSTER — Four times the St. Marys ACME baseball team met the Wapakoneta ACME team this season. The first three times Wapakoneta won. Thursday afternoon St. Marys broke the jinx and with a balanced offensive attack and the pitching of Zach Wilker, as the Roughriders defeated Wapakoneta 12-4 in the bottom part of the sectional bracket at the Auglaize County ACME tournament.
MINSTER — The Minster ACME baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth as Wapakoneta’s defense broke down. The Wildcats came back and defeated Wapakoneta 5-3 in the winner’s bracket of the ACME tournament held at Hanover Street Park in Minster.
The bottom of the sixth inning began with Max Huber being awarded first base on catcher’s interference. Blake Ahrns singles back up the middle. Garrett Hogenkamp loaded the bases when he reached on an error.
ST. MARYS — Members of the St. Marys Board of Education hired a new athletic director during a special meeting Tuesday evening.
St. Marys resident Jim Hollman, who served as a sixth grade social studies teacher, was hired for the job. Superintendent Shawn Brown said he is confident Hollman will put an end to the high turnover this position has seen recently.
“He was the best candidate,” Brown said.
Patricia A. Pack, 54, of Wapakoneta, died at 7:52 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in St. Marys.
Arrangements are incomplete at the Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta.
Joan (Phyllis) Linder Scheer, 86, of Westerville, formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 12:05 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2013, at Parkside Senior Village, Westerville.
She was born on July 30, 1926, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Peter and Bernice (Wissman) Rypkema, who preceded her in death.
On Feb. 26, 1949, she married Richard Linder, and he died on Jan. 2, 1986.
Then on April 28, 1993, she married Lafe “Jack” Scheer, Jr., and he died on Oct. 22, 2006.
Michael Carroll, 36, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:58 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, on Ohio 198 in Wapakoneta in a cycle accident.
He was born on Dec. 10, 1976, in Celina, to parents Robbie Schott Murphy and stepfather Roy Murphy of Mendon.
He is survived by his grandmother; by a brother; a sister; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sets of grandparents.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina.
Burial will be held in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
