Waynesfield Native Killed While Serving

WAYNESFIELD — A former Waynesfield resident has been killed in action while serving in Afghanistan.

Staff Sergeant Sonny Zimmerman, 25, died Monday, according to sources close to his family.

A series of posts on Zimmerman’s death began appearing on Facebook on Tuesday. Zimmerman’s grandmother, Loretta Zimmerman, confirmed that her grandson had died in action on Monday.

Kurt A. McMichael, 35

Kurt A. McMichael, 35, of Mendon, died on Saturday, July 13, 2013.

He was born on Jan. 13, 1978, in Van Wert, to parents Galen and Karen ( Brown ) McMichael,  of Mendon, who survive.

He is also survived by a sister and  his maternal grandmother.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at W.H. Dick and Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Mendon, the Rev. Donald Clinger, officiant.

Burial will follow at the Mendon Cemetery.

Lawrence J. “Larry” Seifring, 88

Lawrence J. “Larry” Seifring, 88, of Louisville passed away on Monday, July 15, 2013.

Lawrence was born on Aug. 15, 1924, in Sharpsburg, to the late John J. and Rose (Kramer) Seifring.

On July 24, 1974, he married Joy-Elizabeth Bingham Smith. His former wife Esther M. Sands preceded him in death in 1985.

Louella C. Kipp, 91

Louella C. Kipp, 91, of Anna, died at 2:25 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, the Auglaize Acres, in Wapakoneta.

She was born on April 29, 1922, in Kettlersville, to the late Ernst and Amanda (Egbert) Brockreide.  

On Nov. 7, 1942, she married Eldred L. “Bud” Kipp Sr. in Gainesville, Texas, who preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 2009.   

Janet C. Pape, 62

July 17, 2013

Janet C. Pape, 62, of 5271 Bayview Road, Celina, and formerly of New Bremen, died at 9:55 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at Mercer County Community Health Center.

Janet won her battle with cancer in her own way and on her own terms.

She was born on Dec. 24, 1950, in Celina, the daughter of Virgil and Jean (Grothaus) Lampert.

She married John Pape on Nov. 22, 1973, at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen.

Her loving husband John survives at the residence.

City Unveils Budget

ST. MARYS — City officials unveiled the preliminary 2014 budget during Monday night’s St. Marys Finance Committee meeting.

The proposed budget, which will not  be finalized until later this year, came in at $47.55 million — up slightly from the $45.70 million that was appropriated for 2013. To date, the city has incurred expenses of $20.6 million. The expenses were $40.24 million in 2010, $40.78 million in 2011 and $41.43 million in 2012.

Homer Joseph Bornhorst, 89

Homer Joseph Bornhorst, 89, of Fort Loramie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2013. 

He was born on Feb. 10, 1924, in Anna, to Louis and Rose Bornhorst, both of whom preceded him in death. 

On May 22, 1951, Homer was married to Mary Lou Borchers, who preceded him in death on Aug. 5, 2012. 

Juanita W. Doseck, 86

Juanita W. Doseck, 86, of 05070 County Road 33A, St. Marys, died at 9:25 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at the St. Marys Living Center.

She was born on March, 2, 1927, in Auglaize County, the daughter of Charles and Adilene (Anderson) Osborne.

She married Charles H. Doseck on Sept. 17, 1944, and he  preceded  her in death on April 6, 2011.

Brian J. Kyburz, 37

July 15, 2013

Brian J. Kyburz, 37, of St. Marys, died unexpectedly at 8:45 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.  He was born on Nov. 11, 1975, in Coldwater.  

He was the son of Russell and Pauline (Quinter) Kyburz, who survive near New Bremen.  

Other survivors include his fiancé, Lisa Miller of St. Marys; his children, Lexy Kyburz and Dezy Miller, both of Minster, Renee Kyburz, Kevin Clune Jr. and Tillie Miller, all of St. Marys; and his sister, Pam (Rob) Lowe of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

Guarnieri has his dream job as University of Findlay's Director of Golf

Dominic Guarnieri was involved in the University of Findlay golf program for about half of former head coach Al Baker’s 21 seasons at the university.

Guarnieri’s rise to the Director of Golf position at Findlay makes perfect sense, but the St. Marys Memorial grad doesn’t take the opportunity for granted.

“To have your dream job at 30 years old, that’s something amazing,” Guarnieri said.
