ST. MARYS — St. Marys schools will receive an additional $612,000 in 2014 and $646,000 in 2015 according to the state’s newly minted biennial budget, bringing the school out of deficit spending, said Superintendent Shawn Brown this morning.
“We’re going to take a look at it, the treasurer’s going to look at it, and see if it has strings attached,” Brown said. “It doesn’t make up for the number of reductions over the last few years.”
Patricia Ann Skinner, 78, of 909 Clover Lane in Celina, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Briarwood Village in Coldwater.
She was born on Nov. 15, 1934, in Lima to the late Everett Myron and Faye (Ragland) Pence.
On Dec. 27, 1955, she married Col. “Pete” Owen G. Skinner.
Survivors include her daughters, Jauneth Skinner of Jacksonville, Ala. and Susan J. Skinner of Lewis Center; one granddaughter; a great-granddaughter.
Connie J. Wellman, 59, formerly of New Bremen and a resident of La Porte, Ind., died on Sunday, June 30, 2013. Arrangements are being handled by the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home of New Bremen.
Thomas J. Miller, 84, formerly of 129 Villa Nova Blvd., and a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community died at 8:35 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Otterbein St. Marys.
He was born on Jan. 24, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Theodore and Thelma (Clark) Miller.
He married Beverly Heil on March 13, 1948, and she survives at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.
Area high school football teams are a little more than a month away from their first scrimmages, with the OHSAA allowing preseason games beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Listed are scheduled scrimmages for WBL, MAC, NWC and area independent teams, according to the OHSAA.org website. Grand Lake St. Marys-area games are bolded.

Dorothy M. Schmiesing, 89, of 641 Linden Ave., Celina, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Sunday , June 30, 2013, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, in Van Wert.
She was born on Dec. 17, 1923, in Cranberry Prairie, to the late Clarence and Helen (Reiss) Stachler.
Bobby Lee Smith, 83, died on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born on Sept. 15, 1929, to parents Alfred Leroy Smith and Mabel Louise (MacDonald) Smith.
He was the fourth of seven children.
He married Thelma Powell on June 7, 1947, in Wabash, where they both grew up, and they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
Bob and Thelma had two daughters, Stacie Smith (Gene) Powell of St. Marys and Dr. Pamela K. Smith, Hamilton; Ypsilanti, Mich.
The opening games of the Auglaize County ACME sectional tournament were rained out on Sunday.
The Minster-New Bremen game, scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, will now be played tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Minster’s Hanover Street Park.
The Wapakoneta-St. Marys game will now be played tonight following the New Bremen-Minster game.
The Mercer County ACME sectional games were also postponed. Fort Recovery will now take on Celina tonight at 6 p.m. and Marion Local will play Parkway at approximately 8 p.m.
