Celina's Wenning wins DII high jump championship

June 7, 2013

COLUMBUS — Sometimes skill — and not practice — makes perfect.

The high jump was almost an afterthought event for Celina’s Michaela Wenning for much of the season. A standout hurdler, Wenning only practiced the event three times outdoors this spring.

“One of the times was this week,” Wenning said.

The Celina junior just happens to be the best girls high jumper in Division II.

Minster has big first day at state track

June 7, 2013

COLUMBUS -- Minster junior Dominic Slonkosky wanted to make sure he at least brought the Wildcats’ 3200 meter relay team a fourth-place finish.

“I didn’t want to slow down or hit a wall,” Slonkosky said.

Slonkosky did a whole lot more than that with a blistering final lap that pushed the Wildcat quartet into third place with a new school record time.

Cats Looking For Homes

June 7, 2013

WAPAKONETA — June is national Adopt-A-Cat month, and approximately 55 cats and kittens are hoping for adoption at the Humane Society of Auglaize County, where the facility is already over capacity.

“We’ve had some good adoption rates with the kittens,” said Sonya Osting on behalf of the no-kill shelter.

Last month the shelter adopted out five to 10 adult cats and 20 kittens. Unfortunately, the society has to turn down callers with cats or kittens every day because they are already over capacity.

CELINA — A suspect in the Grube double homicides has been bound over to the adult division of Mercer County Common Pleas Court on charges that he allegedly played a role in shooting deaths when he was 17-years-old.

Mercer County Juvenile Court Judge Mary Pat Zitter issued the ruling following a probable cause hearing Friday morning in the case against Trevin M. Sanders Roark, 19. Sanders Roark was charged in juvenile court in connection to the deaths of Robert Grube, 70, and his daughter Colleen Grube, 47, in November 2011.
