Mother of the Year Chosen

ST. MARYS — The Evening Leader’s Mother of the Year winner, Mary Craft, is more than a mother to her daughter and son.

She opens her home to her children’s friends and that generosity, her daughter Abbey Craft said, is part of why she nominated her mother.

“She never thought it was good enough,” Abbey said. “She went above and beyond. Cookies on my birthday. She never forgets things like that.”

Fire Dept. Seeks Additional Training

ST. MARYS — Seven members of the St. Marys Fire Department will be participating in a weeklong training session that will give them the tools necessary to assist victims of a major trauma incident.

Instructors from Medic Up, of Orefield, Penn., will be in town next week to train the paramedics in advanced medical procedures under extreme conditions including active shooters scenarios. St. Marys Fire Chief Joey Weaver said the training will be a benefit to the paramedics as well as local residents.

St. Marys uses big sixth inning to rally past Marion Local

ST. MARYS — A couple of perfectly placed bunts helped turn the St. Marys baseball team’s night at the plate from frustrating to fruitful.

St. Marys scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Marion Local 7-4 on Thursday at K.C. Geiger Park.

Rick Alan Marbaugh, 58

Rick Alan Marbaugh, 58, 617 Echo St., Celina, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the Celina Manor in Celina. He was born on Jan. 17, 1955, in Celina, to Bill J. and Doris J. (Snider) Marbaugh, who live in Celina.

Also surviving are his son, Kyle Marbaugh of Celina; a brother and sister-in-law; a niece; a nephew.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Kelly B. Hennon, 53

May 10, 2013

Kelly B. Hennon, 53, of Botkins, died at 6:35 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2013, following sudden illness.  

He was born on Aug. 23, 1959, in Lima.  

His mother and step-father, Letha and Donald Method, survive in New Knoxville.

On March 14, 1981, he married Lorie A. Ott, and she survives.

Lester F. Dicke, 95

Lester F. Dicke, 95, of 14040 Mercer-Auglaize County Line Road, St. Marys, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the St. Marys Living Center.

He was born Oct. 13, 1917, in Mercer County, the son of Florince and Anna (Moeller) Dicke, Sr.

He married Eileen Hollman on Dec. 27, 1941, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 2002.

Gustave C. Link, 82

Gustave C. Link, 82, died on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Dayton Heart and Vascular Hospital in Dayton.

He was born on Aug. 21, 1930, to the late August Link and Anna Lennartz.

On Feb. 7, 1959, he married Betty (White) Link in Greenville, who survives.

He is survived by two daughters, Robin Link of Coldwater and Marna (Jeff) Arling of Minster; a son, Scott (Lori) Link of Fort Recovery; six grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jessica, Barbara and Gustave Link and Alicia and Genoa Arling; one great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Anne Link of Sidney.

Cards Show Off 3-D Printer

NEW BREMEN — Mike Heuker and his high school engineering students addressed the New Bremen Board of Education Wednesday night to talk about new programs and equipment that is supporting the student projects.

“Thanks for investing in the program with the 3-D printer,” Heuker said.

The printer is allowing students to design anything that falls within a 5-by-5-by-5 foot area. The printer produces the item out of plastic.

“It starts with basically nothing, just a platform,” Heuker said.
