SIDNEY — The St. Marys boys tennis team fell in its season-opening match to Sidney Lehman Catholic 4-1 on Monday night.
St. Marys picked up its one win at second singles from Jason Freewalt, who downed Sam Dean 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.
The Cavaliers took the other four matches. Lehman Catholic’s Pierce Bennett defeated St. Marys’ Cole Brooks at first singles, 6-1, 6-0. At third singles, Lehman’s Josh West defeated St. Marys’ Nick Rohr, 6-4, 6-4.
ST. MARYS — One local student is gearing up for the next phase in regional speech contest.
Morgan Henschen, a sixth-grade student at St. Marys Middle School, has already given more public speeches than most people give in a lifetime. Morgan is competing in the Eagles God, Flag and Country Speech zone competition in Wapakoneta on Saturday.
Students in Bridget Sturwold’s sixth-grade class were given the assignment to write a speech that could be presented for the competition, but actually participating was optional.
Todd V. Mallory, 52, died at 12:41 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1961, in St. Marys, to parents Vernon "Bud," who survives in St. Marys, and Mary Jane (Kelley) Mallory, who preceded him in death.
He is also survived by his former wife, Jami (Furbee) Mallory, of Fort Wayne, Ind. and by his girlfriend, Marcelle Ranes of Findlay.
Sue A. Fox, 72, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 11:50 a.m. Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert.
She was born on Oct. 13, 1940, in Dayton, the daughter of James and Martha (Kipker) Williams. Her mother survives in Land O’Lakes, Fla., and her father is deceased.
On Aug. 18, 1962, she married the Rev. Larry Fox, and he survives in Wapakoneta. She was actively involved with him in his pastoral ministry for 50 years.
Larry Sattler, 62, of Celina, died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, March 31, 2013, at his residence of natural causes.
He was born on July 21, 1950, in Carson City, Mich., to parents Leonard J. Sattler and Josephine Babe Hiner, both of whom preceded him in death.
On Oct. 5, 1968, he married Barbara Hawkey, who survives in Celina.
