Roughrider Keeps Her Plate Full

ST. MARYS — Senior Sarah Mabry, 17, is and has always been involved in just about every kind of activity Memorial High School has to offer.

Up until this year, she was a member of FCA, FCCLA, Relay for Life and Friends for Rachel. That’s not counting varsity volleyball and softball, in which she still participates. Sports are fun for Mabry, and a good way to stay busy, but FCA was easily her favorite activity, and probably her favorite thing about high school.

NEW BREMEN — It could have been called “garage sailing” Friday in New Bremen as customers were blown from house to house by a bout of blustery winds cool weather, but that didn’t stop them from turning out en masse to catch a deal.

Jodi Trego said she had bought Cinderella dresses for her daughter Ali, but was looking for outdoor patio furniture this year.

“It looks like anything I want everyone else wants, too,” she said.

Lori This was selling in her garage, mostly toys that her children had outgrown.

Chet Lore, 54

Chet Lore, 54, of 223 Lynn St. in St. Marys, died at 5:43 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.

He was born on June 20, 1958, in Dayton, to Louis and Mary (Dupont) Lore.

On June 30, 1979, on the shores of Grand Lake St. Marys, he married Sueann Adams, who survives.

Helen M. James, 94

April 19, 2013

Helen M. James, 94, formerly of St. Marys, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2013.

She was born on Sept. 5, 1918, in Whitten, Iowa, and later lived in Omaha, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Jess) James in 1979, and her sons, Larry and Thomas James.

She is survived by a granddaughter, Mrs. Robert (Christina) Edgington of Wichita, Kan.; one grandson, Thomas James II and his wife, Kendra, of Goddard, Kan.; six great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren.

CELINA — A Celina police officer was determined to have shot in defense of himself and two civilians when discharging his weapon in an act that led to the death of Robert Hensley, 39, of St. Marys, who drew his weapon and turned to confront the officer in Celina.

ROCKFORD — The Parkway Panthers had their bats ready Thursday and with seven runs in the first three innings the Panthers defeated the New Knoxville Rangers 11-1 in five innings on a single by Austin Adams that scored Cain Pontsler in a MAC game played at Don Black Stadium in Rockford.

ST. MARYS — The St. Marys softball team finally got back on the field for the first time in nine days after four straight games were rained out. The Roughriders got greeted back to the diamond by a dominant pitching performance and relentless offensive attack from the unbeaten Shawnee Indians.

Shawnee struck for seven early runs and coasted for a 10-0 five-inning win behind the pitching of Kay Shick at K.C. Geiger Park on Thursday.

Leo J. Osterholt, Sr., 91

Leo J. Osterholt, Sr., 91, formerly of Philothea, and most recently of Coldwater, Mich.; passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2013.

He was born on April 17, 1922, in Fort Recovery, to the late Bernard and Johanna (Wenning) Osterholt.

He was married on May 8, 1943, to Natalia “Dee Dee” (Barnhart), who passed away on Jan. 5, 2013.
